Feds -CA. Bridge Threat Credibility 'Cannot Be Determined'
MSNBC ^ | November 1, 2001 | Pete Williams

Posted on 11/01/2001 4:42:32 PM PST by umbra

An FBI official told NBC the warning Davis announced was based on an FBI bulletin sent out only to law enforcement officals and not intended for the public.

The FBI did not know Davis was going to release the information, NBC's Pete Williams reported.

Shortly after the governor's warning, the Justice Department released a copy of the warning, which said the FBI had "uncorroborated information" that the terrorists were planning the attacks.

but the Republican party has a long history of fielding unelectable candidates here.

I beg to differ - they've have Gov. Reagan 8 yrs, Gov. Deukmejian 8 years, Gov. Pete Wilson, 8 yrs for a total of 24 years of Republican rule - and then they made the fatal mistake of nominating the "Pro-Life" dull/boring 345 guy this last go around (can't remember his name) and with the CA FRAUD factor GRayOut won. In my heard, Califoria is still a relatively conservative state. It's my "home" state and I still love "her."

Is Riordan running on the R ticket? At least he has a few brains, even if he's a REAL moderate.

Watching PMSNBC Jerry Brown just seemed to confirm that Davis did this on his own (based on Fed info) with no consultation with the Feds. I think Grayout was feeling left out. He just wants someone to play with him.

He and Clinton should get together--they seem to share the same "issues."

No kidding. I'll go further and say I suspect the PRC would be delighted if the fleet headquarters in San Diego were to disappear. If Davis just saved this, the Golden Gate and Bay Bridges, good for him.
bin Laden's handbook talks about the "enemy bridges." The Left Coast has a bunch of targets and terror cells--one of the largest may be in San Diego and the intelligence says something may be coming over the border. You figure it out.

It's a no-brainer for anyone who has been following our alternative media. These connections cannot be made by the clueless idiots glued to their TV sets. They are not getting enough information. (Don't even go into the subject of apathy and 'bread and circuses'. New thread altogether.)

There is hope in convincing people to open their eyes to the world beyond their immediate lives and concerns, and I have to say I've been pleased with some of the results with people I've talked to, but there is still a long way to go.
Big media lies!

Just out of curiosity - How would you stop a fully loaded container ship or oil tanker from deliberately plowing into one of the tower supports of the Golden Gate Bridge? And if it were an oil tanker, not only could you fatally weaken the bridge, you could also create a mother of an oil spill in SF Bay.

I never thought I'd have anything good to say about Davis, but I have to agree with you on this. The FBI has been reasonably effective at covering up terrorist attacks but doesn't have a stellar record of preventing them. The attacks that have been prevented so far seem to be due to the efforts of other governments in catching the bad guys.

A suitcase nuke detonated atop the Coronado bridge might take out 3 targets: the bridge; the largest U.S. Navy base in the world, and the city of San Diego. I hope I'm wrong, because I'm at "ground zero."

Don't worry...you're wrong. The bridge would be taken out though.

Everyone's bashing the guy for warning the public, I want to know what everyone will be saying if something does happen and this is a "credible" threat. First off the FBI is not saying it is not credible, but rather that they are "investigating it", sounds more like "We know we just don't want you to", if it really was nothing I would think they would come straight out and say it. I personly work underneath the Bay Bridge and would rather know that there was a threat and that it never happens then to rely on a handfull of highway patroll armed with pistols and shotguns trying to stop a driving tanker with a bomb and a suicidal driver at the wheel, there would be no arrest, just an early explosion. What worries me more is that the fedral govt. didn't consider this a threat worthy of public knowledge. What then is worthy for the public?

"...at 8:40am this mornig a truck bomb destroyed the Golden Gate Bridge."

Think about what you're saying, this isn't a game these are people's lives. I'll be working from home tomarow and if something does actully happen, this "doofus" will have saved my life.

Why do you say that? ... If I recall correctly the 32nd street Navy Base piers are almost directly under the Coronado bridge. One kiloton would take them out and all the frigates and destroyers there too. Super carriers are often close by across the bay. We have the Connie, the John Stennis (Johnny), and soon the Ronald Reagan (Ronnie).

Personally I think Davis is a puke, but I admire him for at least saying what the terrorist threats are... something the FBI and Ashcroft have yet to do, which is needlessly scaring the public IMHO.

In a perfect (or even just fair) world, this news would be in tomorrow's headlines to counter today's. Davis' grandstanding is going to cost a lot of employers with "sick days" this next week. Call it it the "Davis Panic Flu". What a punk....

inciting mass panic

Yeah, I hear people all over Los Angeles are driving around trying to figure out where the suspension bridges are. ;-)

"In the morning news, it was revealed the threat was SINGLE SOURCED. It was revealed, illustrated with FBI audio, before the events of 9/11 such a threat would *not* be announced. It was revealed the threat covers SIX Western US SUSPENSION bridges--and not limited to CA. The bridges were not named. EIGHT governors were warned. Davis extended that to include the major CA bridges. Among those is the Coronado bridge in San Diego which is *NOT* a suspension bridge.

From another thread about an MSNBC report. Hence, the cynicism. Plus, we're talking about Grayout Davis. An opportunist who has done nothing except raise money for himself and tried to bankrupt California. With that said, yes, the public should know of matters that will save lives. This does not appear to be one. Rather, it is political posturing on the advice of hacks--paid for by California taxpayers to boot....
