Bridges, smidges. You'd need a very large explosive, placed in just the right areas to take down the Golden Gate. A truck bomb ain't going to do it.
Don't be a fooled. Davis made this crap up, so he could get in on some facetime and put his sagging poll numbers up.

Davis made this crap up, so he could get in on some facetime and put his sagging poll numbers up. MSNBC's Brian Williams appeared to go to great lengths in order to not burst out laughing after Davis made his announcement.

Davis made this crap up, so he could get in on some facetime and put his sagging poll numbers up. If this is true, hasn't Gray Davis just committed a felony? The effect of this is far worse than one anthrax hoax.

I agree Davis is either trying to pull his poll numbers up by trying to get on the bandwagon, or jockeying to get Federal money, especially after California voted for Gore. He's desperate, and just like the rest of his liberal ilk, don't care if he upsets the average person for his own personal gain. Tries to trump up a crisis beyond the facts, in order to get face time. Bleccch!

Placement is clearly key, but I don't think the explosive would have to be terribly big. I'm not familiar with the Golden Gate bridge in particular, but it's no secret that most suspension bridges will not survive the loss of even one of the major side cables; I would hope that someone is watching the ends of those cables (where they're fastened to their foundations), since a small cutter charge (or even someone with the right kind of saw and some time undisturbed) could drop the entire bridge.

First thing I thought of too. Then I thought that would be pretty risky with the Feds all over this kind of thing.
