TERRORISTS TARGET CA BRIDGES!

Talk show host Tom Sullivan just reported that during a press conference Gov. Davis said he was notified that there is evidence that terrorists plan to target the Coronado Bridge (San Diego), the Golden Gate & Bay Bridges (San Francisco) and an LA Bridge (didn't catch the name) tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 2nd.

Thanks for reminding me about 32nd St and Point Loma.. how could I forget to include them on my post.. especiall Point Loma where my uncle is burried along with my aunt at the National Cemetery.

heheheheh-afghani submarine=camel swimming across river with mad jihader armed with an AK riding on top--anyway-actually, I was thinking just another force multiplier effect. I'm not familiar with ship traffic out there, but something like this, that they could pull off. Large tanker or LNG or chemical laden ship approaches a bridge. Out to the side, a fast fishing boat or something, packed with explosives, rams into it just as the ship nears the bridge. small el kaboom leading to much larger el kaboom.

I wouldn't read too much into anything that Tom Silly-man says.

Sullivan is a well known panic monger. - The slightest little thing and he is ready to call in FEMA. - He is the guy that messed up Rush Limbaugh's head; before Sullivan got hold of him Rush used to think just like his brother (who has a lot on the ball).

consider: If terrorists were going to bomb a bridge, it is HIGHLY unlikely that they would let ANYONE at ALL know about it. IT isn't like they are sending out office memos to all talk radio programs giving tomorrows agenda. It is more likely a diversionary tactic if it is anything at all.

The bridges that come down during earthquakes are usually overpass “bridges”, but I don’t think they have names.

CVN-65 has a height of 250 feet.

Ah, but you forget that the last 50 feet are detachable radar masts. Moreover, the large carriers (such as the U.S.S. Enterprise you cite) do not moor at 32nd Street Naval Station. They moor at North Island N.A.S, before you get to the Coronado Bridge. Besides, San Diego wasn't even the homebase to any nuclear carriers until just a few years ago, the largest was U.S.S. Ranger (CV-61 or CV-62, I believe). The reason was draft, the channel was too shallow and they wanted to dredge as little as possible to accomodate the larger carriers. Hence, the decision to moor at North Island N.A.S.

Dumbarton, San Mateo, Bay Bridge, Richmond-San Rafael, Golden Gate, Carquinez, & Benicia. The Antioch is also considered a Bay Bridge.

The Bay Bridge is the busiest bridge in the world. If it were to collapse, it would be very bad. More than half the people who work in downtown SF commute in from the East Bay. Four freeways merge into one to cross the bridge. It is the major entrance into the city from all points east.

All true. However and fortunately, there are many mitigating factors that make it a poor target. First, there is good ferry transport between the Oakland and SF sides, and more capacity could be quickly brought online. The entire Blue & Gold and Red & White tourist boat lines could be temporarily pressed into service. Truck traffic could be forced south down the 880 and across the 237, and then only during non-commute hours. In fact, truck traffic should probably be routed that way anyway, given the circumstances. Much of the truck freight slack could be taken up by sending freight up the CalTrain tracks during non-commute hours. Might require some connector track, but manageable. Also, you can bet military based on Treasure and Yurba Buena Islands are watching both spans like a hawk.

The Bay Area is as resilient to adversity as any place in the country. What the scum will get by attacking bridges is a lot of capable, motivated, and p---ed off people.

THAT'S WHERE THE CARRIERS ARE MOORED!...the north side of the bridge. They do not go under it.

Attacking bridges just aint their style. Now if you want to know what they like, they like to short stock and destroy S&P businesses. They like to watch the stock market lose value, one sector at a time. My guess as the likely target factoring everything I have read and heard is this:

Involving Southern Florida check

Involving multiple aircraft check

Involving aricraft bought in the bahamas check

Involving tanker truck or hazmat check

Involving spent plutonium check

Involving a heavily traded S&P stock check Bert and Ernie connection check (yes it isn't a direct connection but if it was, we would be on defcon 5 for the area I am thinking of). Think kids check

If I was trading in big mouse ears I would be very very vigilant in and about Orlando. Call it a gut feeling.

Look for fuel trucks. A gasoline fire would do to the Golden Gate cables what jet fuel did to the WTC steel girders ... melt them. The bridge would fall.

Answer: stop all trucks.

Delay them for 24 hours. Put our own drivers in for the bridge crossing. Let the original drivers take a bus across.

This requires military thinking. Lawyers need not apply.

Actually San Pedro is not an incorporated city. It's part of L.A., as for example, Brooklyn is part of N.Y. However, there is a drive among our residents here to separate from L.A., since the port provides much of L.A.'s revenues while getting a disproportionately small share of benefits. I think it would be a mistake though, because a separate San Pedro would vote heavily Democratic and REALLY make a mess of things for us.

Yup, I guess if you want a bridge,(or building) bad enough you will get. Hell, one of these idiots could shut down a bridge for a day or two with a bag of powdered sugar if they really wanted to.

Sorry, you are wrong.

The carriers and subs are north of the bridge, (important but few), all of the destroyers, cruisers and amphibs are south of it.
