Talk show host Tom Sullivan just reported that during a press conference Gov. Davis said he was notified that there is evidence that terrorists plan to target the Coronado Bridge (San Diego), the Golden Gate & Bay Bridges (San Francisco) and an LA Bridge (didn't catch the name) tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 2nd.

Coronado Bay Bridge
The superstructure is made up of 32 spans, 26 of which consist of welded plate girders, the rest consist of precast "I" girders, and orthotropic box girder spans. The bridge, which carries five traffic lanes, crosses over a navigation channel accommodating the San Diego Harbor marine traffic which includes both commercial as well as military vessels. The structure is located on Route 75 in San Diego County.

The close proximity of the navy and marine bases would make it a prime target.

There aren't any bridges in LA. I mean none like the Bay Bridge or Golden Gate Bridge.

Huh? You haven’t heard of the San Fernando Bay Bridge?! It crosses the LA river in Van Nuys.

Actually, no. But you missed this part of my comment: "I mean none like the Bay Bridge or Golden Gate Bridge".

Those are bridges. There are two more in SF Bay as well.

Nothing in LA even approaches any of the SF Bay bridges in their lengths or importance for traffic and commerce.

I thought L.A. had no harbor or port,

So what was I doing when I worked for the Port of Los Angeles?

You're looking horizontally in that picture. That perspective gives a false sense of the great height that you're at. Here is the proof from the company that did the seismic retrofit on that bridge:
"The Coronado Bridge connects San Diego to Coronado Island spanning San Diego Bay. The port of San Diego is the largest Navy Port on the West coast of the United States and, because of this, the bridge was built to accommodate the large Navy ships that pass underneath it everyday. Its center span rests 205 ft above the channel."

Exaclty what we need to do! Profile and make it nearly impossible to carry out this threat. Bomb sniffing dogs at the Bay and GG Bridge toll plaza and armed guards with instant blockades on the toll plaza exits. The wait will be worth it if lives can be saved.

Coronado Bridge makes a lot of sense. Take that down, and you trap the Pacific Fleet (whatever is left in port) at their docks.

if you Click here You should be able to see that the Coronado bridge is on the south of the Naval base and collapsing it would NOT trap the Pacific fleet ... or any Navy vessel.

I thought I remembered from maps that the city of LA has a strip of land that runs all the way down from the main portion of the city, just to include the port itself within the city limits.

Thats correct.

Technically, it is in San Pedro

Which is, as we all know, is part of the City of Los Angeles and has been since the 1920's.

Vincent Thomas's old home in Long Beach is a few doors down from mine, and it's a beaut, a real landmark. My husband was quite impressed with the underground wine cellar and adjoining large tasting room.

As for the two ports, Long Beach and Los Angeles, they are next to each other and combined I believe become the busiest port in the country. All the stuff from China comes in RIGHT HERE.

I do not understand the Coronado Bridge being a strategic target...20 minutes drive would take you around via ocean beach way.

I think this may be a little attention Davis is trying to muster up. Really, what significance is any target in California besides hollywood?...there is none.

Apply your energy elsewhere I would say...

Well true, but my point is...this is not even remotely as bad as say, smallpox being spread or even a small nuke going off. Good luck though since the time period is quite a few days this might happen....hopefully if it does, as little people are on the bridges as possible....

I hope this isint a ploy to draw all the attention to the west coast and them attack somewhere else

Actually, I'm concerned that this could just be part of a multi-pronged strike by numerous cells throughout the USA (and perhaps overseas as well). It appears that infrastructure is a major target this time. We know that they would like to throw some major and numerous monkey wrenches in our transportation systems and in our economy.
