...and some general web research hints...
Most of us are aware of Free Republic as "The Premier Conservative Forum"- but do you realize what a powerful tool it is for research and analysis?
Not only does "any story or issue worth discussing" eventually end up being posted here ( usually days, weeks, or months ahead of the Jackal Pack Press ) but it is instantly analyzed, dissected, critiqued, and flayed by dozens or hundreds of people from all over the world.
Lies, spin, and propaganda die swift deaths on this site-- moreover, posters usually contibute more data, stories, links, and even memories that "flesh out or kill" a particular item.
Doing web ( or Free Republic ) based research is easy! Here are two engines I like:

Here are all the search engines you'll ever want or need:

Here are our own "lists of lists" on FR:

And how to make/add your own list for "indexing":
Looks like the Outage for Database Changes was John at work the other day which now allows us to retrieve huge number of articles indexed by key words in the Oficial Bump Register.
For example CALPOWERCRISIS has nearly 2000 documents now retrievable!
John has truly done a marvelous thing!

Here is some general info I "wish somebody had mentioned to me at first":
And here's the Master Link to "stories the media doesn't like to talk about":
DUBOB 9-- even *more* tales from the Dark Underbelly of the Beast.....
Dive right on in! But be advised you may turn into a "research nut" who is continually annoying your friends & family with obscure yet tantalizing bits of data you have gleaned from the web....
And I think that's great!
They are thinking for themselves, and reading a lot of different views, and forming their own conclusions.... much like I did 35 years ago, but they have easier access to so much more differing information.
So anyway, my brother has always been pretty interested in politics. But my sister wasn't. She seemed to lean to the left on a lot of issues. But she knew that I was very into politics and current events, so when she had a report to do on that kind of subject, she came to me. Of course... we did all our research right here. Now, she hardly asks for my help. But I'm so excited that she uses FR for research! She just finished a report on whether guns save lives, or take lives. Using FR, she came to the conclusion that guns save lives. I'm so proud of her!
So a great big BUMP IN THE NIGHT for a GREAT thread that will definately help all of us FReeping research fanatics. LOL
When I turned 18, I registered as a Democrat, because the Democrats had better looking candidates
Actually, you have stumbled over a Great Truth.... people support the candidate who looks & sounds the best on TV- actual competence, character, and ability have little to do with it.
Aiding & abbetting this is the media's love affair with charisma- it started with FDR, took wing with JFK, and found its ultimate embodiment in clinton...
Sad but true! I will never stop believing that this is the ONLY reason that Clinton ever won. And the fact that the idiot won twice will never stop amazing me. How can people be so stupid!? I suppose it shouldn't really surprise me since I used to do the same thing. But somehow... I just don't get it. LOL
We always gave them the razberries at IBM!
They would actually ask us questions obout our travel exense reports!
BTW, here are all the "banner" bump lists I've made so far- researchers & lurkers, dig in!

Mini-Editorial:
Folks, all of us, when lauding, promoting, or referring to Free Republic to lurkers or browsers or the curious, ought to make a point of showing them- perhaps by emailing the link to it- the bump list.
With the admonition, "See how much you have not been told about? Now think of what you may have missed, because it simply was not talked about...."

BIG BUMP!
Since the bump list section has been closed, let me post here some of the "keyword" words used to access the new database.
This is a very useful and important tool for reseachers, reporters, and commentators. There are tons of information available here:
This is only a partial list- may I suggest an idea?
I think we should use as many "bump list" words or phrases- exactly as written- to avoid unnecessary cluttering of the new keyword list.
