Good reading - especially since I just had fettucini alfredo and cheesecake for lunch.

I thought all disease was caused by saliva...

But only if swallowed in small amounts over a long period of time (One of George Carlin's better jokes)

I think there is something to what the article says. My diet has always been high in fat, meats and dairy [I especially love bacon and ham and milk], yet my cholesterol levels have remained the same, quite low, over the years, and there's no evidence of heart disease. My doctor nearly had a heart attack, though, when I finally 'fessed up. I think there's probably a genetic component to heart disease, and probably other factors not yet understood.

P.S. I don't like sweets. Much prefer foods tickled with peppery or bitter condiments.

"Newbury Naturals, Inc."

Is this starting to look like a quack rant or what?

You know I don't think there would be any lack of volunteers for a multi year study in which half get generous rations of steak and eggs, and half get to eat what is today considered a "balanced diet," if the food is furnished free. It shouldn't be that hard to hide the results. One thing which is not pointed out here is any connection to activity levels and/or exercise and/or overall weight (high fat tends to be high calorie, and saturated fat seems to be the easiest fat to get). And how about other nasties suspected, such as increased cancer rates for the susceptible. How about the "brown fat" and other genetic connections for some peoples with a high meat diet (e.g. the Eskimos), which makes them able to burn off more calories, and perhaps to deal with saturated fats better. This rant sounds like the data cherry pick it complains about itself.

I don't need a book to know that high amounts of fat are not good for the body. Had a friend who bragged about eating massive amounts of meet. At the time his mother was in the hospital for heart disease.

"To find out how egg consumption influenced my own blood cholesterol, I once used myself as a human guinea pig without asking the ethics committee at my university. Before and during the experiment I analyzed my [total serum] cholesterol. My usual egg consumption is one or two eggs per day, and my cholesterol value at the start of the experiment was 278 mg/dL, very close to a determination of blood cholesterol made 10 years earlier." On day 0, Dr. Ravnskov ate 1 egg; on day 1, 4 eggs; on day 3, 6 eggs; and on days 3-8, 8 eggs per day! "The data from my daring experiment showed that instead of going up, my cholesterol went down a little [to 246 mg/dL]."

Probably true. They just found a natural lipid in eggs that blocks the absorption of 100% the cholesterol in the egg and probably anything else you eat with eggs.

And this morning I saw a blurb on TV about a study that links long distance running with heart disease, because of the resulting inflammation.
