Hastert Slams Biden for 'Comforting Our Enemy'

House Speaker Dennis Hastert slammed Sen. Joe Biden Wednesday for remarks that he said "may bring comfort to our enemies" in the U.S. war in Afghanistan.

Biden had warned after a speech to the Council on Foreign Relations Wednesday, that continued bombing of Taliban targets and Osama bin Laden's encampments made the U.S. look like "a high-tech bully."

Hastert called the remarks "completely irresponsible," according to Roll Call, then added:

"After losing close to 5,000 fellow citizens to terrorist attacks over the last month and a half, the American people want us to bring these terrorists to justice. They do not want comments that may bring comfort to our enemies."

Roll Call

Heard on the Hill

He Said It. Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Joseph Biden (D-Del.) caught hell yesterday from both Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) and Rep. Tom Davis (R-Va.) for suggesting that the United States could end up branded a "high-tech bully" for bombing Afghanistan.

In a statement released by his office, Hastert called Biden's comments, which came after a speech to the Council on Foreign Relations, "completely irresponsible." He added, "After losing close to 5,000 fellow citizens to terrorist attacks over the last month and a half, the American people want us to bring these terrorists to justice. They do not want comments that may bring comfort to our enemies."

Davis, the chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, said Biden's comments were "outrageous and negligent," but claimed he saw them coming.

"I think we all feared here would come a time when some Congressional leaders would start to cut and run from the President and undermine our national-unity front," Davis said. "I am disappointed in Senator Biden's remarks and hope that he can clarify them and support our troops."

Joseph Biden (D-Del)

Maybe it is time to boycott anything that comes from Delaware! It worked with Madison, Wi and is working with the commies in Berkley!

Biden is more dangerous to our survivial than OBL. This Jane Fonda circa Nam bs is what cost us the war with N. Viet Nam.

It is obvious that his hair transplant plugs have removed all logic and reality from his brain as the trasplanted roots have sucked up most of his brain!

Biden is on C-Span now, trying to 'clean' and wash the story.

And Powell is defending him, saying he knows his comments were taken out of context, and thanking him for his support. Barf.

In related news, GOP Congressional Leadership appears to have located their spine. ..

however, when it is more than a war of words, the GOP will always fold.

No matter how hard Biden trys to craft an image of being a no-nonsense guy on defense matters he, like most democrats, just can't help putting their personal politics before the nation's interests. This latest outburst from Biden seems to be a salvo for his deluded dreams of running for president...again. Even by democRAT standards, Biden's pomposity is in a class by itself.

About what I would have expected from Powell. I believe he is responsible for persuading Bush #1 to leave Saddam Hussein in power, and I also believe he (Hussein) is the instigator behind most of our current problems. Bush needs to tell Powell to stick to the diplomatic after-dinner speechifying and let him and Rumsfeld handle the serious stuff. Or better yet, appoint him to some ceremonial post where he can't do any real harm.

It's always nice to see Republicans use their backbone, it's usually so rare! Perhaps President Bush's example is rubbing off.

The "comforting the enemy" remark is right on the money.

Biden just LOVES to hear himself talk. Have you ever heard anyone else more in love with the sound of his own voice other than maybe Clinton? Biden's hairplugs are digging into his brain.

Senator Josius Biden Questions Use of Mangonel in Rome's War on Barbarism (Roman News Daily - 10/25/01)

In an address to the Senate yesterday, Senator Josius Biden, chairman of the Roman Foreign Relations Committee, questioned Caesar's use of the recently declassified Mangonel in Rome's new War on Barbarism.

The Mangonel, a so-called "siege machine" similar to a ballista that is capable of hurling objects over 1/4 of a mile at an enemy fortress, has been used extensively in the War on Barbarism. A high-ranking government source indicates it is used not to destroy fortress walls, as was previously speculated, but rather to throw canisters of burning tar over walls from a distance beyond the range of archers. When tar is unavailable, the heads of fallen barbarians are reportedly also used. "I imagine it's a little hard to concentrate when severed heads are flying at you," stated the source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

In his address, Senator Biden stated, "I understand the desire to protect Roman soldiers in battle, especially when attacking a well-defended Barbarian encampment, but using the Mangonel plays into every stereotypical criticism of us -- [that] we're this high-tech bully that thinks we can do whatever we want to do..."

Senate Speaker J. Dennisius Hasterte called Mr. Biden's comments "completely irresponsible."

"The last thing our empire needs right now is Senator Josius Biden calling our legions 'a high-tech bully,'" said Mr. Hasterte, "The Roman people expect their senators to support these operations and to support our men in armor."

In a related story, the Barbarian spokesman called Rome a "bunch of high-tech bullies" in his regularly scheduled press conference this morning. Not much more was said before the conference was abruptly canceled due to reports of incoming severed heads.

LET US NEVER FORGET THE NAME JOE BIDEN. He is the fellow who plagarized an Englishman while running for the office of President. He also told us that he had 4 degrees and carried a grade average of 4. during his college years, and he made a fantastic grade on his bar exam. He is truly a senate DUFFUS with a big mouth.
