I know you see me as incrediably evil

No I don't. Just in error about what the scriptures teach us.

nothing I can do about that

Yes you can. Stop seeing yourself as the final arbiter of the meaning of the scripture and listen to what your Christian brothers and sisters are saying.

I see those pictures ...This is not christian charity ...

Now who's judging?

I have no problem feeding anyone that needs it..but why here and why now?

A New Covenant obligation as a Christian. Figure it out.

It is not wisdom to feed your enemy

No, its Love. The love of Christ.

scripture is not addressing National enemies..it is addressing personal ones..personal charity..not governmental

Here you go again pontificating. National or personal doesn't matter. You seem to be conveniently interpreting scripture to fit your needs. It's subjective exegesis. I forget the theological term, but basicly its putting meaning into the scriptures that is not there. BTW, who do you think the government is. It's people. Thank God that the grand majority of Americans disagree with you on this. In fact, I haven't seen many on these threads that agree with you.

Think what you will of me Thomas

I think you've stepped in it, Mom, and don't know how to get out of it. HINT. Humble thyself in the sight of the Lord.

This thread is long so I'll just reply to the last three people. RnMomof7, one thing is obvious about her, she is an R.N. I don't see starving children on the photos of kids receiving food, I'm sorry. They are lovely and I'd like them to have all the food they'll ever want, but compare the photo of the kids going through the trash bin with the photo of the little kids, only the trashbin photo kids are skinny enough to be starving IMO.

And since when do children in a refugee camp in war in a tent have squeaky clean hair? And where's the burka?! I'm not convinced these children had to run from any Taliban, and I'm tired of being bombarded with photo manipulation business as usual by the press.

What about the drought these people had for three years, are we getting water to them? How are they eating without water? At least the photos might begin to look believable if they were drinking some water.

How are we supposed to write to these kids when they don't even have a post office. It's all getting ridiculous. I feel like I'm watching a movie.

WASHINGTON, DC - The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) announced today it is sending $11.8 million in food aid to Afghanistan.

In response to an emergency appeal from the United Nations World Food Program, USAID announced it will provide 30,000 metric tons of wheat to Afghanistan. The food will be distributed to people affected by the drought throughout Afghanistan. The UN has estimated that 1.6 million have been affected.

"I am pleased to announce an additional $11.8 million in food aid for Afghanistan," said USAID's administrator, J. Brady Anderson. "We are monitoring the drought closely, and are assessing the needs of the people of Afghanistan on a continuing basis."

The announcement of the food aid brings USAID contributions to Afghanistan to $32.5 million for the year 2000. Of this, $25.7 million is emergency food aid. The remainder provides humanitarian assistance in the areas of health, water and sanitation, shelter, and distribution of critical relief commodities for vulnerable people in Afghanistan.

Total U.S. government assistance to Afghanistan, including the additional USAID contributions is $113.2 million for this year in response to growing humanitarian needs in the face of a severe drought. The United States is the largest single donor of assistance to Afghanistan.

The U.S. Agency for International Development is the U.S. government agency that provides development and humanitarian assistance worldwide.

I disagree with your inflated, exagerrated, and naive rationale for continuing the feeding of these people. It is not doing any good and in fact is doing harm as you have already seen in other posts and articles. You base your "charity" on the Christian ethos but that is do be done on an individual basis, not one based upon the government. Finally, may I add that the afghans may wish to replace opium which they grow profusely and with the assistance of local warlords with corn or wheat. Maybe then they would have more food for their children.
