Home Depot Gives To Liberal Group, Denies Conservative Group
(CNSNews.com) - After donating to a pro-homosexual group earlier in the year, home improvement mega-store Home Depot has denied the grant request of a charity that tries to turn youth away from homosexual feelings.
Both nonprofit groups perform outreach to youth who are struggling with their sexual identity. One group received $2,500 grant in the form of 100 $25 gift certificates, which the group could use to raise funds.
The other group received nothing and suspects that their political sympathies may have factored into Home Depot's decision.
Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays (PFOX) had hoped to receive $3,000 from Home Depot to set up a library for families and youths seeking answers and information about dealing with homosexuality.
They didn't give us a reason why they were denied, other than we didn't meet the criteria,said Regina Griggs, national director of PFOX, referring to a Sept. 18 rejection letter from the company.
Then why does Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG)qualify, she asked. That's what I go back to. Maybe the company's decision makers are more sympathetic to homosexual activists, she speculated.
Unlike PFOX, PFLAG teaches that sexual orientation is often a matter of nature rather than nurture.
PFLAG has also been critical of efforts to engage in reparative therapy; designed to eliminate individuals' sexual desires for members of their own gender.
Though the Sept. 18 letter did not specifically state a reason why PFOX's grant application was rejected, the letter mentioned the company's focus on at-risk youth, which a company spokesman later said usually means youth who had criminal or drug abuse histories.
The letter also noted the company's material and monetary donations to the families who lost loved ones during the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
Jonathan Roseman, director of community affairs for Home Depot, said the company's unplanned giving to Sept. 11-related efforts was one possible reason why PFOX was denied funding. He could not, however, recall whether the decision regarding PFOX was made before or after Sept. 11.
The main problem with PFOX's application, said Roseman, was bad timing: it came midway through the year (in July), after a company committee had made most annual funding decisions.
Almost all of our commitments are made in the spring of the year, when our budget is being constructed, he said. If PFOX were to reapply early in 2002, the outcome might be different, Roseman added.
He denied that Home Depot has any political bias in funding charitable efforts.
I get grief when we fund Habitat for Humanity, said Roseman. People call them a Christian organization. I don't know if they are or not. I think they have a strong faith component, but they do phenomenal work on sheltering people.
We get criticism for funding the Salvation Army, he said. They are somewhat of a religious organization, but I don't fund the religion. I fund the program they do to get poor people off the streets, to connect poor people with jobs.
Home Depot has also been criticized for giving to the Boy Scouts, Roseman said.
We fund the Boy Scouts [and] we've gotten a lot of flack for that, he said. I don't fund the Boy Scout's decision not to include gays as scout masters. I fund them to do their work giving young men the positive, constructive atmosphere to grow up in.
I don't get into that political nonsense, Roseman insisted. I think people make too much about it. We've got better things to do with our time and money than to feed into those kinds of agendas.

This supposedly mainstream organization is not what appearances suggest.
"The well-known and respected national organization "Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays" (P-FLAG) serves as a support group for parents seeking guidance for their homosexual children. P-FLAG is recommended as a resource group by the U.S. Department of Education and U.S. Department of Justice in its upcoming manual, "Preventing Youth Hate Crime." Many schools, community agencies, and even nationally syndicated newspaper columnists refer families to it. P-FLAG has affiliates in all 50 states, with about 70,000 families among its membership.
A look at some of P-FLAG's literature and recommended books, however, reveals an approach to child guidance which is consistently both sexually and socially radical. First-person stories aimed at teens tell in pornographic detail of the delight of a young girl's sexual seduction by her lesbian teacher; of gay relationships between teenage boys and much older men; and of the precise how-to's of masturbation. Teenagers are specifically encouraged to use only their feelings as a guide to sexual behavior; to be their own judge of what is right and wrong; and to "have fun" experimenting. If a sexual behavior feels good, the logic says, it will tell them "who they are." Teenagers are encouraged to see religious traditionalists as mean-spirited and hypocritical, while at the same time, to see gay consciousness as "sacred." Were similar books recommended by parenting groups for "straight" teenagers, they would be considered violations of community standards of decency.
Some of the recommended books are relatively "tame" on the surface, justifying teenaged homosexual experimentation with the usual "This is me. This is who I am." Others go much further--glorifying sex with animals, witchcraft, feminist goddess worship, worship of sexual pleasure as a form of religion, promiscuity with hundreds of partners, bisexual orgies, and voyeurism.
Ironically, one of their booklets, "Beyond the Bible: Parents, Families and Friends Talk about Religion and Homosexuality," has a section entitled, "Caution: Hate Groups." Listed organizations include Promise Keepers, Focus on the Family, Concerned Women of America, and Family Research Council.
That pamphlet recommends that religious seekers read Gay Soul: Finding the Heart of Gay Spirit and Nature, a book which labels gay sex "sacred." In it, first-person stories are told of gay men delightedly flouting their vow of celibacy in seminaries; of a man reporting that he had a peak orgasmic experience during sex with God; and of sadomasochic torture being enjoyed by a psychotherapist as a mystical experience. Another writer in the anthology labeled as "sacred" the experience of incest between fathers and brothers. (Gay Soul was reviewed in the April 1997 Bulletin.)..."

More correctly, she'll need a group like NARTH to save him from the perversion he is falling into. That's the only truly loving response!

There’s no justification for perversion. The “It’s who I am” garbage means nothing, either you’re born that way or it’s ideology and the P-VERTS in P_FLAG know it. It’s behavior, behavior, behavior, period!

Sounds like a healthy and meaningful alternative to that which is good, right and true. Since they’re already perverting their lives why not go all the way? Parents who encourage their children to continue in a life of filth and degradation are just as morally repugnant and base.

How very wrong you are. There is only one Gospel, only one Body of Christ.
There are many Christian stances. One is not more correct than the other.
I take it that you didn't even bother to read the article. Well, that was a helpful way to approach this!
All derive from the Word. All are guided by the Gospel.
Even those that are mutually exclusive? Sounds like words from another master!

He never contradicted a single aspect of the traditional Judaic teaching on the matter. However, as in the case of the adulterous woman, he made it clear that it was not for us to dispense God's justice in these matters. He then told the woman to go and sin no more

Christians who wink at or approve of same-sex acts, or refuse to call men and women living with same-sex attraction to live the gospel more deeply and truly, need to repent for their unfaithfulness. Loving someone does not mean we love and accept his sins. The easy claim that love justifies all, for example in a same-sex relationship, cannot be countenanced.
