Probably the best reason for not stopping is this:

If we stop we are admitting that this is a war on Islam. All along we have been claiming this is a war on terrorists. If we acknowledge Ramadan or Christmas or Kwaanzaa for that matter, it will give fuel to the Moslems who are protesting the action as anti-Islamic. Just like the "rats" who take any Republican initiative and demonize it, the Taliban will seek to use this against us in the court of public opinion.

Yep. And that it is a war on Islam in which we can't quite bring ourselves to pull the trigger. And that it is a war (as we've been accused) that's kinda electronic, like a video game, where you can "pause it", get a snack, and go back to blasting.

No, my take on this is that, hey, there is a tradition in Islam that you get instant paradise for martyrdom during jihad -- but that's doubly so if it occurs during ramadan. We should help to accommodate 'em in that tradition (and they should love us for it).
