I cried when I heard the news about her being on that plane. Barbara was someone I very much admired. So is Ted and I know he will get through this and be stronger for it.
Barbara will always be missed. I never ceased to be amazed at her intellect. She was always poised and self-assured. When she debated on TV, she was intellectually above her opposition and knew it. I felt this amused her because it certainly was never a contest of wits since her adversaries never had any -- although they thought they did.
Just three comments to pass along to Ted Olson when you print out this thread:
Thank you. Barbara, for all your service to America in your all-too-short life.
Thank you, Ted for your service to America that continues.
And thank you, Ted, for the time and thoughtfulness to send a note to us, one of the many communities in America that deeply respected and appreciated Barbara.
We rejoice at your successes. We grieve with your loss that is the greatest burden any man can bear.
To you, Ted, we say God bless you. For Barbara, we know that she has already been blessed and will welcome you when your time in this veil of woe is over.

Post Script: There is a small, sad fraternity that none of us would ever accept, had we the choice. It is those who have endured the funeral of a wife or hisband, son or daughter. All I can offer you from eleven years in that fraternity, is this: It WILL get easier as time passes. It will NEVER get easy. You must soldier on not because you want to, but because you must. There is no other choice.
That is scant help in your time of sorrow. But I hope it helps some.
Barbara's 'joie de vivre' and common sense conservativism will be forever missed.
