Many in FDNY felt he betrayed them by becoming FC and joining the enemy.

The enemy? [Sorry, it's late and my eyes are glazing over.]

He said "And this is my face. I live in Rockaway, Queens, Bitch". Maybe he meant Hillary as well.

He's from Rockaway. I went to college with a couple of kids from there - mean Mothers.

There's a large Irish-American colony in Rockaway Park. Lots of cops and firemen.

The salt of the Earth, very conservative and very patriotic.

The guys from Broad Channel (houses on sticks in the middle of Jamaica Bay) are even tougher.

Interesting that you had to start your own thread about this topic, when the last post you make on the Mother of all Threads tonight was a salute to what Daschle said.

Check this story out. This was the best part of the night. Well besides Hillary being booed out of the country. Here

FIREMAN NAILS OSAMA 'BUTT' GOOD (Brother of FReeper BCM)

News/Current Events Source: New York Post Published: 10/22/01 Author: LARRY CELONA Posted on 10/22/01 12:55 AM Pacific by kattracks

October 22, 2001 -- A New York City firefighter's fightin' Irish words for Osama bin Laden were the surprise hit of the benefit Concert for New York. Wild applause shook Madison Square Garden when Michael Moran, 38, delivered his in-your-face patriotic message to the terror chief: "Kiss my royal Irish ass!" But the rave reviews didn't stop there. Moran's fiancée, Donna, was moved to tears. And when he got home, the Ladder Co. 3 veteran found a congratulatory note on his door. His answering machine was full - with messages from people who watched the live event on television. "Mike, you did my Irish heart proud," said a doctor from Maryland who has never met Moran but was touched by his remarks. Moran's brother, FDNY Battalion Chief John Moran, perished in the Sept. 11 terrorist strike. While Moran was watching the concert, he realized he wanted to get up on stage and say something.

Actor Michael J. Fox, who was standing nearby, told him he could.

First off congradulations to John Moran on being honored at that deal on Saturday Night.

We don't get VH1 here where we live but I saw the highlights and commentary on Fox & Friends this morning. The fact that Hillary was booed show just how out of touch she is with the people of New York. (I read her comments on the Drudge Report.) The fact that other media outlets chose not to cover this and that NBC gave a fawning interview with XXX42 this morning show just how out of touch these media outlets are with mainstream America.
regards.

I agree we should say a prayer for Tom Von Essen. But let's set the record straight. There has in fact been a long simmering feud between fireman and commisioner. And he's viewed as a micromanaging self promoting guy who's only interest is furthering his career. The final straw for a lot of us was his appearance on 60 Minutes where when asked about the morale and condition of the men he stated "I told them they're just going to have to suck it up". As if it took a royal decree from his highness to tell the guys who had been digging, working at the firehouses, and burying their dead to suck it up. Thanks for the help Tom but we sucked it up from day one.

You guys in the trenches have done more then "suck it up." It must be hard for Von Essen, though. You have to admit it takes drive and the heart of a politician to get where he;I don't think that is in the heart of the average rank and file guy. Still, you need those at the top, too, who know well where they came from and can never be completely at ease in a shirt and tie. They know where the guts of the thing are, and the heart, but they are driven to go where they are driven to go, and it must not be an easy thing to reconcile the two. V's wife.
