That pales in comparison to other shirts I have seen on school campuses - sexual references, drugs, atheist, violence, etc. Yet the principle is gonna ban a worldwide Christian symbol! [><]

This action to devide the Union of States was a violation of the US constition

I can't seem to find that in my copy of the U. S. Constitution. As a matter of fact, this Country's founders even made reference to the population overthrowing an oppressive government. Under the Articles of Confederation AND the U. S. Constitution is WAS understood that the individual states had made a VOLUNTARY pact from which they could withdraw if it was in their best interest. Go back and read the Federalist and Anti-Federalist Papers for further explanations regarding the LIMITED powers of the FEDERAL government and then realize that the powers NOT enumerated were left to the individual STATES.

The offense is all in your mind. If you are offended by my Confederate flag, well, thats some sort of problem you have if your are offended where no offensie is intended.

A lot of people would be offended by you reading FreeRepublic or are offended by the fact that FreeRepublic exists. Care to assuage their misconceptions by pulling the plug on it? I thought not. I find this "cognitive dissonance" of your fascinating. First, you rail against those who defeated the slaveholders of the South in their attempt to rebel against the United States.

Then you quip that those who disparage that rebellion aren't "Americans."

You claim you're a "Confederate," loudly and often, and you even have the audacity to bring this up again during this time when--one would think--we could put aside such petty hobbies in favor of national unity.

I on the other hand claim to be an AMERICAN, and it is the flag of the United States--the flag against which your heroes rebelled, the flag they cast down--that I fly proudly.

That racist banner which you love is the antithesis of the America that I love.

Go somewhere else with your neo-Confederate cant, and understand you can't have it both ways. Either you love this country, or you love that country that never existed. Choose.

Oh, I don't. I simply prefer that people understand the history, instead of the romantic myth that arose to take its place.

I doubt you'll find too many Germans today who will tell you, even candidly, that they resent being "stripped of their history" with respect for the Third Reich. So that argument is hollow.

Funny. I would be willing to wager good money that we could find examples of you RAILING against "multiculturalism" elsewhere. But you'll don that mantle when it suits you.

Go back and read the earlier thread, the links to which I provided. I put LOTS of stuff in there about the "noble, multicultural' South of the slaveholders.

You may have your romantic myth of a place that never was, but pardon the rest of us while we deal with reality.

My first thoughts as well, same if they had worn a rainbow shirt and an ear-ring to celebrate homosexuality or an African Flag/Apparal to manifest their heritage of portions of a novel culture. If somebody sporting those colors is suspended, it would be a court case.

According to the accounts of the battle of New Orleans, there were free blacks who owned slaves.

I'm not in any way debating whether or not slavery existed or that is was a terrible portion of this countries past, which I believe it was!

Trading in human flesh is terrible! In fact, it still exists today.

There are ships loaded with immigrants (illegal) that are indentured for survitude in return for transport.

Some arab traders in Africa engauge in slave trade.

This is not just an issue of yesturday.
