Because he couldn't get elected dog catcher as a Liberetarian. So, for all of his supposed " principles " he runs as a Republican, and takes their money to boot. If he REALLY had " principles" , he wouldn't run under fraudulant colors. Ergo, he 's isn't anything other than a political hack , who some people here revere, for no good reason .

He was a Republican congressman before he became the Libertarian Party's presidential candidate. Then he switched his party affiliation back to Republican. But he's always been a libertarian, past, present and future.
