VANITY Question: What Have Your Dreams/Nightmares Been Like Since 9/11?
Posted on 10/15/2001 7:50:59 PM PDT by hispanarepublicana
My family and friends have always considered me to be slightly freakish because I have in my whole life had maybe 2 bad dreams or nightmares. However, since 9/11, I've often dreamed that I am running, trying to escape something; or, that I am on a train in a city and bombs are dropping out of the sky. The other night I dreamed we were out on one of those large hotel rooftop pool/patio areas in Dallas. There were several children about (almost like a family reunion or something). Suddenly, we saw an airliner fall out of the sky nose down about 2 miles away right on top of a water park. The rest of my dream was us trying to gather and protect the children.

I've been having a lot of dreams which I can't really remember, but I wake up feeling very unsettled. I remember one where there were terrorists in a car and just as we drove by the cops blew all their brains out. Very graphic, with busted-out windows and brain splatters all over.

When I was a kid, I would have a recurring nightmare that would involve watching an airliner crash.I grew up next to O'Hare airport and used to have tons of plane crash dreams, too. They stopped once I moved away. I know that I had one catastrophic type dream since 9/11, but I don't really remember it. Lots of thick black smoke with flashes of orange and red is about all I can remember.
On a lighter note, my brother had a few beers and had a dream that instead of rebuilding the WTC they just put up holograms so the sky line wouldn't be disturbed.

I don't think I got more than 3 or 4 hours sleep at one time from 9/11 until last week.
I'll never forget waking up in a cold sweat the first or second night after the attack with the sounds of people screaming "another plane is going to crash!"
Thank God FR is available 24/7 cause I've spent many overnight hours here the last several weeks.
The only thing that happens anymore is just at that moment I'm about to fall dead asleep a little voice says "nothing is going to be the same anymore." D@MN I hate that!
I fear not for me but for our posterity.

I am in Brentwood CA ... and work on the 25th floor of a building. Have dreamed of burning buildings once (and I never have nightmares) ... I've experienced lots of restless nights since 9-11 ... a lot of sadness and anger.

My dreams have not changed.
I sleep soundly and peacefully every night.
Occasionally I have a bad dream ("it's exam time and I haven't been to class or read the book"--that sort of thing). But nightmares--practically never.
I never have trouble falling asleep. I fall into a state of prayer as I drift into asleep, and I spend every night with God and in a state of prayer.
In fact, as life is communication with God, life is prayer.
And that's the truth.

I had a dream (after 9/11)in which Jesus came into a room I was in, I was told He was coming. He glowed from within. Words cant describe it.

my brother Wow. What kind of beer, might I ask?

I keep dreaming that the IRS comes knocking at my door while I'm asleep and my dog doesn't alert me or bite them in the shins. Then they sneak into my bedroom and throw stun grenades, then they kill my dog, and then I'm too stunned to get the bazooka I have at the ready for them. They hog-tie me and ship me out all the while making fun of the dust on my bureau and my dirty underwear.

I haven't had but one or two good nights of sleep since then. I'm tossing, turning, having a stiff neck and disaster dreams.Ditto! (except I sleep during the day)

Darn it! I just noticed that this was supposed to be a terrorist thread. Now you know who my terrorists are.

Before 9-11 I always dreamed of sex. I still just dream of sex. I sleep less but still dream of sex.

I haven't really dreamt alot, because I haven't really SLEPT alot. But I will say this: I am not a psychic, but at 4 am on 9-11, I found myself physically ill and distraught, for no apparent reason. I had been active on a Chandra levy forum for some time, and as I was speaking to a friend of mine on the phone I said "I have a terrible feeling that something REALLY big is about to happen." We both just assumed that it pertained to Chandra being found. I had no idea what kind of nightmare I'd wake up to 5 hours later.

Been having one where terrorists are attacking, but I have them in the crosshairs. Yet, no matter how hard I pull the trigger, the gun won't fire.
It isn't an uncommon type of dream, but it's frightening and frustrating none the less.

a lot of my dreams have to do with being in buildings that i can't find my way out of. i believe this is due to the fact that i used to wreck a lot of buildings for a living and maybe i'm just trying to get out of work. lol! nothing really changed since the WTC. i rarely have dreams about sex, dammit!

Prescription for a good night's sleep: Limit your amount of terrorist news exposure. Seriously, don't go to bed right after watching the news or reading political threads on FR. Make the cut-off point 6:00 PM. After that, you can read, watch TV, talk on the phone, snuggle with your husband, do anything but read or watch the news.
I've already de-programmed my TV from getting CNN or MSNBC. I reached my limit on terrorist news and I just can't stand to see it anymore. (I also hate that scrolling at the bottom of the screen.)
