I remember that "Huertgen Forest" guy - he coulda been a contenda in a Doonesbury strip if Doonesbury were clean and honest. Strange, Carlos Castanedaesque postings. I had some serious health issues, and didn't read FR for over a year - and when I got back - he was only a memory. I understand he was bogus in some way, but he was something else. I'm not sure he wasn't Hunter Thompson in a place where he couldn't get any drugs...

Last I heard, Don Morgan was running for some sort of local Republican Party position in his area As I understood it, he was elected.
I am also lead to believe that he has assumed a new user identity (which will remain nameless) and now posts here again.

"Hmmm... what ever happened to those guys?
Pretty much what they deserved" They weren't bad guys, just misunderstood. :^)

I assume most of the posts that are from 1998 or earlier are gone, which is too bad.Try a Google search. It's amazing what will turn up. I did one on myself (screen name) once, and all these FreeRepublic posts and replies popped up. I vowed then that I would always try to use proper grammar and spelling and not D___mn anyone to He!! unless they really deserved it! My typing sometimes gets in the way of the spelling and grammar, and my temper sometimes gets in the way of the other vow!

Remember when we had our own WhiteWater link? Yes, and I remember that everyone posted everything from Bigfoot sightings to European politics to Abortion threads on the WhiteWater link so the articles would show up in the forum (most people came in through the WhiteWater link and didn't know about the "Latest Posts" and "Latest Articles" buttons).

I got hooked through Drudge during the Thompson hearings (97?--Where is Scotsman?) and was a daily lurker until jumping in during the '99 year end fundraiser. Time flies. Thanks for the memories....

Yep. I lurked for the first year, too. Mainly because I didn't have a home computer and was using my pc at work.

I can't quite remember how or when I found FR. I registered in early 1999 but lurked for some time before that.
I do remember that before FR I used to check the Washington Times "Whitewater" link every day for stuff about Clinton.

Those were the days. I lurked from Jan-Jul98. Joined officially Jul98. Remember the Whitewater days? Quidam. Trident/Delta.
Whitewater Archives.
Free spirited discussion. A LOT less BS and a LOT less vanities. Some of the newbies just don't get it.

"good bye forever" posts, and the vicious internecine wars that were characteristic of that early period too. " I loved the ones where two people would get fighting and then would Post the results of the fights, complete with the links to the offenders threads. Expecting everyone to take sides, like in grade school.
Then at least once a week, we would have an "I Hate Rush" or an "I love Rush" thread.

My first cyber crush was Deb. Sigh, she is, as Bill O'Reilly might say, pithy. I also liked to read posts from Penny, wonder where she's gone. Haven't seen Wallaby around in quite a while, but then again, I don't freep as much as I used to. Still my favorite VRWC site, tho.

I am also lead to believe that he has assumed a new user identity (which will remain nameless) and now posts here again. Interesting. A couple of posters strike me as plausible candidates, but I can live with the mystery. :)
Before he was banned, I often wondered if RedRedWine was navigator. I have at least one other suspicion about a banned poster returning, but have so little evidence it doesn't seem fair to make the charge publicly.

Even thought I virulently disagreed with a lot of what DonMorgan said, I did have a lot of respect for him, as he was a dogged debater. :-)
I didn't post a lot in those days (I didn't even register for a while, just lurked), but I did tangle with him a couple of times.

What ever happened to Freeper Island? I'm still there... Marooned.
I've run out of corn for the still, and have taken to fermenting coconut husks.
Please send corn.

The rest are at lucianne.com filling the roll of "self appointed post police...Lucianne has gotten so boring. The lack of archives is one of the problems.
I stopped posting there when she kicked everyone off and assigned us new log-ins that was some complicated number that I could never remember.
I just lurk there now for the short cuts, and transfer the very few articles that haven't yet appeared on FreeRepublic.
