The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

I would give angelo the benefit of the doubt here. There could be two possibilities. Maybe there is a really good brand of turkey bacon and he needs to tell you which one. Or maybe he's just deluding himself into thinking its "turkey." ;-)

I tried a turkey bacon, too. It was like eating fried pork rinds. In other words ... styrofoam.

Angelo, is there a certain brand we should look for?

Ultimately it doesn't matter who wrote them. What matters is that they were inspired by God.

Yes, this is how I see it,too. Their inspiration we take on faith and their value we can gather from reading it, relating it to history and to our own lives. Even at its least religious level, it is powerful stuff. Eccles iastes is more profound than anything that Shakespeare wrote.

When you get back, would you please give your take on why sacrificial worship was consolidated in the temple in Jerusalem,

Lunch break is almost over, but briefly: the traditional viewpoint is that sacrificial worship was centralized because that it what God commanded in scripture. Centralization was a limiting factor on sacrifices. Maimonides suggested that the allowance for sacrifice was a concession on God's part to the primitive nature of religious understanding among the early Israelites. Through the Hebrew scriptures, there is a greater restriction on sacrifices, and a development of understanding that God requires a change in heart more than the sacrifice itself. Some Jews look to a resumption of sacrifices with the construction of a Third Temple; others believe that we have 'outgrown' such means of relating to God. (I must say it would be amusing to see how the PETA crowd would react to a resumption of sacrifices).

Modernists of course read the centralization of sacrifice as a power play by the priesthood to get the tribal cultic rituals under their firm control.

By the way. have your heard the allegation at Mustafa Kemal Atatuerk was a "secret Jew," whose family were "sabbateans" or Muslim Morannos, which is the reason he turned against Islam when he came to power?

I've never heard this, but it sounds interesting.

Naw ... he doesn't like that stuff. It doesn't go well with chocolate milk.

What about chocolate cheese? Oh, I'm starting to shake just thinking about it.

Too bad we can't vote Jones out of office. :o(

You can. Just make sure that no municipality builds him a new stadium. If the 'Boys keep losing, then Jones might sell out. That is, if his ego lets me.

I'd have to check with mrs. angelo to be sure, but I think it was Oscar Meyer. I've only tried one variety. I also happen to like mine extra crispy, so perhaps that accounts for some difference.

You guys are soooo cute in your naivetee. :-)

A couple three years back they held a referendum in the 11 county Pittsburgh area to approve a 0.5 percent special sales tax which would be used to fund "regional cultural assets," including new stadia for the Pirates and Steelers. Voters rejected the idea by up to 75-25 margin.

The next day the politicians were talking about "Plan B" funding for new stadia. They opened this year. There is no effective plan to stop people determined to spend your money. Or as they say "No man's life or property is safe while the legislature is in session."

I've forgotten my Hebrew alphabet but the Hebrew is in the Doc at the site. Please check it out and let us know. Usually, they are transliterated or used as whatever the Major newspapers in Jerusalem or other acknowledged Jewish Hebrew authorities use.
