What is going on in Dallas?

Folks, please excuse the vanity, but I would like to get others to look at this.
If there is anyone in Dallas with a telescope or a good set of binoculars, get outside and point them SE, towards Kaufman Cty.
There are currently thousands (literally) of wispy, white 'streamers' of something drifting down through the sky. This stuff is falling all over my yard, all over Forney, and all the way out to Terrell.
Could this be the same 'harmless' stuff which fell in Trappe, MD. last week? I don't know, but it is truly bizarre.

I don't think it's spiders, 'cause this stuff is a couple of thousand feet up (near as I can tell).

I would absolutely love to be able to record this, but I don't have any of that kind of equipment.

If you are new to Texas, what you might be seeing is cottonwood tree residue. It can literally cover the ground, mess up air conditioners, etc. Whispy white cottony little "sprigs" about the size of a quarter.

Can you somehow get a sample? Put it in a ziplock bag and take it to a private lab for analysis. It's probably the ONLY way to get an HONEST idea/finding of what the crap IS.

Sounds like chaff maybe.
Is it metallic?
How long are the strands?

Ballooning spiders have been witnessed up to 7,000 feet up. I'm not saying that these are their result, just a little factoid.

Baby spiders can drift thousands of feet high. Just takes a few thermals to get them there. They're very light, and it's a very effective means of dispersal.

I don't think it's spiders, 'cause this stuff is a couple of thousand feet up (near as I can tell).Spider hatchlings can be carried up thousands of feet and hundreds of miles away from their "launch" point. I saw a show on TLC or Discovery about them a couple of months ago. I didn't realize how far they could go.

Now, now. I'm just mentioning that Le-Roy's story sounded familiar. Now I've gotta re-adjust the foil fedora...

I'm guessing in this case that the spiders were mentioned on Bell's website to debunk some fantasy, probably contrails.

Maybe it is all those Cowboy's season ticket holders realizing that acquiring Ryan Leaf was not such a great idea.

I just heard over the radio of a fire unit dispatched to a small plane dropping a white substance over Fort Worth near downtown.
I haven't heard the report from the crew dispatched though.

Thank you for the confirmation, Chip(s)...;^) This very well could be natural, but I don't recall ever seeing anything like it in such profusion before.
About the weather - we have been dry for a few weeks, then had drenching rain two days ago, then overcast, occasional sprinkles yesterday, today bright and sunny, about 54o.
The remnants that I can track anywhere near the ground have 'coagulated' into little blobs, light enough to blown by a nearly imperceptible breeze, and even through binoculars I can observe nothing within them...if it's spiders, they're incredibly tiny li'l suckers.
