Nader attacks U.S. bombing campaign

"When are we going to learn from history?" he tells a cheering San Francisco audience. "When are we going to learn that we can't bomb our way to justice?"

By Damien Cave, Salon

Oct. 12, 2001 | SAN FRANCISCO -- On Thursday night, progressive crusdaer Ralph Nader finally threw himself into the war debate. Speaking before a cheering crowd of 1,500 at San Francisco's Masonic Auditorium, Nader launched perhaps his broadest attack on Washington since the November election. After speaking for about 20 minutes on his favorite themes -- reforming the electoral process, curbing corporate power, ending poverty -- Nader set his sights on the government's anti-terror campaign, decrying the Bush administration's emphasis on a military response and Congressional acquiescence in the face of a White House assault on civil liberties.

"When are we going to learn from history?" he asked. "When are we going to learn that we can't bomb our way to justice?"

Instead of increasing U.S. security, said Nader, bombing Afghanistan would just give the Muslim world another reason to hate America. U.S. policies in the Middle East -- such as our.support for Saudi Arabia's repressive regime and our sanctions on Iraq, which have created misery for its civilian population -- have already alienated much of the Arab world, he noted. Bombing Afghanistan will only hurt the country's weakest people, "thus giving terrorists the images they need to recruit more killers."

Yeah that's right bombing didn't work against Germany and Japan.

bombing Afghanistan would just give the Muslim world another reason to hate America.

Typical liberal--if someone hates us, IT'S NOT THEIR fault, it MUST BE OUR fault.

Go stuff it up your a$$ RALPH TRAITOR.

I don't think random people in Afghanistan should be killed.

They aren't killing "random" people. They are killing the Taliban of which Osama Bin Laden is the commander of their army and are the chief protectors and financiers of Al Qaeda.

I guess when we can find a batallion of lawyers as badass as our Rangers and Navy Seals to "legally" extract psycopaths without firing a shot. That seems to be the only way a gay Arab activist like Nader seems to fight, behind a lawyer!

Maybe you should share your conservative non-interventionalist view with OBL. I hear he's quite concerned with social justice.

That's the first sensible thing I've ever heard Nader say! He's absolutely right. Innocent civilians are dying because of bombs this government is dropping.

Got news for your holeass, we got 7000 DEAD CIVILIANS HERE to their 1 or 2! Another limp wristed Alan Alda skipping pansy worried about what we do to them, but not what they are doing to us! We'll only win when we stop caring about civilian casualties!

We don't target civilians unlike the terrorists. Accidents happen, war is hell, and those scumballs started it! Hell even now we are air-dropping food on our enemies so they don't starve to death!

What should the US do? Send Andy Williams over to Afghanistan with Barney and arrest bin-Laden? I'm sure he would come along peaceably. /sarcasm

"According to news reports, government bombs killed 4 UN workers and refugees report dozens (perhaps hundreds) of others have been slaughtered by bombs dropped by American pilots under order from this government."

Also in news reports, the Taliban are killing UN workers.

Was it US or them?

Communists and Capitalists both love warbucks(limited). That's why we have all these "actions" leading up to 9/11.

Does the Clinton legacy make you feel safe yet?

I'm worried about what we do to them and what they do to us AND what we've done to them for 10 years - bombing Iraq, bombing Afghanistan, bombing an aspirin factory in the Sudan - to get them so angry at us that they kill us.

The people who are mad at us now were mad at us ten yrs ago too. Their tradition holds the First Amendment to be evil in and of itself, and they see the great prosperity that freedom leads to--and are jealous. Everything else is window dressing, IMHO
