Yes this is definitely how TERROR-ISTS operate. People with scanners from all over are picking up these calls and reporting here on FR. A lot are hoaxes but sorry bioterrorism is not going away either. Buy stock in CIPRO pharm..?

They want attention more than anything. They are after the media and attention for their 'cause'.

LOL. Would be interesting to see what their stock has done over the last few days (who makes Cipro?). Also I hear doxicycline is effective against Anthrax as well. That one is available in generic form so that might give you some more stocks to buy.

They are not aiming at 'communication' but rather media outlets so that they can get a lot more coverage.

Terrorism is about media and attention.

To be really honest, freaking out about this bio terror stuff (that is being caught already anyhow) and posting it on the web is just flaming the terrorists' fire and maybe making things worse...

Exactly. The chicken littles who didn't get enough of their hysteria dose with Y2K are now back and playing right into the hands of the terrorists....and the emerging opportunists I presume.

Concerns Vs. Chaos in the Anthrax Scare

I put my thinking cap on, and for MAD here to work for Saddam means he must have SOME kind of equivalent capability that renders what the US have neutered. You think that? I just don' think Saddam thinks anyone would wipe him out.Its vanity, or megalomania, not cunning. His contingency? He isn't that bright a guy.Does he have rockets now that could aim smallpox, ricin or anything else as a WMD to combat the US and create a Mexican standoff?

Are you advocating the surrender option with him? C'mon, spit it out, what is your worst fear about him?

No, but he has sleeper terrorists operating on US soil, sleepers who have been mailing out letters containing anthrax to major media for two weeks with total impunity. That fact is slowly sinking into the public consciousness, awareness maybe ramping up 10X a day for the last several days. They may well have caches of smallpox, ricin, VX, and/or sarin as well as anthrax, courtesy of the man in Baghdad. I guess it could come down to a question of how lucky we feel.

On another thread someone commented that the game plan was to create so many false alarms and so much hysteria, that we'll exhaust our supply of anthrax-potent antibiotics, and THEN they hit us was something widespread and massive

Another possibility is the objective is to get us so focused on biologicals, what we won't be looking for it when they hit us with something unexpected

If Sadaam is behind it, he's playing a very dangerous game. If stuff happens here which causes massive casualties, US public opinion will be in favor of creating an unbroken sheet of radioactive glass from Libya to Pakistan.

Most likely, this phase was built into the plan as an insurance policy for Saddam. It puts us in a very tricky position, I must admit.

Ok just caught this article, Drudge link

Ananova :

NY Times reporter receives 'powdery substance'

A reporter for the New York Times has received an envelope containing a "powdery white substance".

The substance sent to Judith Miller is being tested by health authorities.

Miller, who was formerly stationed in the Middle East, is co-author of the book "Germ: Biological Weapons and America's Secret War."

After the envelope arrived, employees were moved out of the third-floor newsroom to other areas in the building, spokeswoman Christine Mohan said.

She added that the substance smelled like talcum powder.

Air tests for radioactive and chemical substances were negative.

The move came as the FBI investigates a fourth case of anthrax in the US after an NBC worker was tested positive.

The female employee is said to be doing well.

Damn, you are frustrating! LOL... You let it out in dribs and drabs like a serial crime novelist. He has sleepers here, who could be anywhere, but will need support along the way, and have law enforcement after them 24 hrs a day. What's the worst they could, according to your scenario? Kill more than at the WTC with a gas attack? For that, Iraq turns to glass. Is that a good tradeoff?

I agree! Hysteria Abounds! My best friend works at Starz/Encore in Denver and got in a tape from NBC today which they asked them for with newsfootage for a spot they are putting together. This idiot producer totally freaked out and called the cops and said that this 'mysterious tape' came from NBC and thought there may be Anthrax on it. The cops then called the FBI and brought in the Bio Team to shut the building down. Apparently, 7 Bio people showed up took the tape outside and sprayed it off with the hose. LOL The Bio Team cleared the use of the tape and everyone resumed work. My friend said it was unbelievable.

The idiot producer should be flogged.

More to the point, MAD assumes each side has the ability to destroy the other. The radical Islamic nations have the ability to terrorize our population, but they do not have the ability to destroy our nation, or even put up a signficant opposition to our military.

Still, if this is BioWar (and it sure looks everything like that, as inept in the end as it may turn out to be) then a barrier has been breached that allows the U.S., at the discretion of our national command authority, to respond with weapons of mass destruction.

I doubt we do so, because we can defeat our opponents militarily without using WMD. However, some regimes are going to fall. I do not think the current governments of Syria or Iraq will survive this war. Nor, honestly, do I think that the governments of Libya, Sudan, Algeria or Iran stand a good chance of surviving. Iran may raise the most eyebrows. It's long past time we punished that country.

ROFLMAO! BossLady, glad to meet someone out there has a brain with the switch in the "ON" position. I agree, the producer that started that hysteria should be flogged, or at least forced to wear a sign that says "I am a idiot over-reactor."
