The Brady Boomers - The 'Tween Generation - 5

Posted on 10/12/2001 3:54:37 PM PDT by WIMom

Most who were born at the tail end of the baby boom

- 1956 to 1964 or the beginning of GenX - 1965 to 1970 -

feel we are not part of those generations.

Therefore, it has been decided, we will be forever know as

THE BRADY BOOMERS

Post your memories of tunes, movies, shows, fashions, school stuff, or anything from OUR generations! And remember, have fun!

  1. We were too young to serve in Vietnam, but remember the news.

  2. As far as we're concerned, the music, television and popular entertainment and heroes of the 60s were and still are a matter for personal taste, and don't represent the shining apex of all civilization, icons to be revered by generations to come - in short, the Beatles were just a band that some might not like, and old Trek was cheesy and not well written.

  3. Old boomers came into adulthood at while we were playing with Barbies or G.I. Joes.

  4. Our clothes and music tended to be lighthearted, and we are more conservative/libertarian as a whole than the older boomers.

  5. And of course, we faithfully watched The Brady Bunch every Friday night.

Here's a story,
Of a lovely lady,
Who was bringing up three very lovely girls.
All of them had hair of gold,
Like their mother,
The youngest one in curls.

Here's a story,
Of a man named Brady,
Who was busy with three boys of his own.
They were four men,
Living all together, but they were all alone-.

Till the one day when the lady met this fellow,
and they knew they were much more than a hunch.
That this group,
Must somehow form a family.
That's the way we became the Brady Bunch,
The Brady Bunch-.
That's the way we became the Brady Bunch.

I love the 70's as a child but my favorite time is the Great 80's.

BTW Here's a fun Bin Laden game in an effort to relive American's pain.

"When The Field was being readied for new houses and roads, we would pull all the survey sticks out of the ground, every time they were replaced.

How dare they wreck The Field!"

Holy space warp! We had The Field over by my house in San Jose. We'd throw sheets of corrugated sheet metal (stuff we found) out there in the summer, where it would get all hot during the day. Go out a few times a week or so, and that's where the bluebellies, alligator lizards, and the occasional gopher snake would be.

The Field was right next to the The Creek, where we found salmanders and leopard frogs, and The Dairy, where we'd take our dog to chase the cows.

The 45 has clip and ammo?

Yeah, buddy! Not only that, the slug went inside a spring loaded casing and actually fired. Johnny Eagles came in both western and military style. The western set had a Colt Peacemaker and a Winchester 30-30. All of them actually fired. They were also the same size and shape as the real thing.

You could put my .45 down next to a real 1911, and they were the exact same size and shape. Had to pick it up to tell it was a toy (it was way lighter than the real thing). You're right, too. The leftist gun-grabbers would have a fit if these things were on the market today.

Whoa! We used to go to The V-Room, which was in The Creek, which was actually an Old Storm Drain that led to a Scary Old Mansion that you've seen in movies, but which I will not identify for reasons that shall remain secret. :)

In The Hills above The Creek there were ...

Abandoned Mines!

And if you drove through The Hills up The Mountain to The Radar Tower at night, you had to be careful, because your breaks could mystreriously fail, and then a little Green Glow would appear in the middle of your windshield, and the faster you went down the hill, the more the Green Glow would spread out and cover your windshield.

Suddenly, you were speeding down The Mountain down the winding road without vision in the Green Glow in the dark with no breaks and...

Check out WIMom's post #143.

She was making a wry obeservation that along with all of these shared pop-culture memories, we also have shared archetypal memories. Vikingchick and I joined in...The Field, The Creek, The Creek, The Creek, The Mountain... etc.

By the way, you gotta know The Mountain and The Radar Tower I'm talking about...

Ever encounter The Green Glow?

" The Creek, The Creek, The Creek, "

Gee, you think I spent some time there? A few lingering side-effects, I guess.

I meant: The Creek, The Old Storm Drain, and The Scary Old Mansion,

Yikes!

OH, I see. Yes, I used to ride my bike (no helmets, of course) along The Creek and then we had The Field where we would conduct science experiments with a rusty old pot filled with water, catch a rat, start a fired and then boil the rat. We all freaked out when the guts started boiling out. Then, The Bully got the guts on a stick and chased me with it. Eeeew. Nightmares for years..... Very cool. CC :)

THAT'S the spirit!

Did The Bully end up being a hairdresser?

Bike helmets! That was for moto-x ers in competition! Our field had custom made burms, hair pin turns at the bottom of drop offs. We also had a creepy abandond farmers house that had old beer cans and burned out mattresses. It is now a mall and hotel. New house construction sites where a major source of activity! Climbing in unfinished houses was more exiting than any jungle gym.

Interesting point. Our parents were definitely a patriarchal generation. Boomers are chick-led. GenX seems androgynous.
