Perhaps Atta's well-known history of failure with the fair sex might be in some way connected to the irritated condition of his palms.

Nor would the man in casual clothes who spoke clear English with only a trace of an accent give Chatterton a straight answer about why his hands were red. From cruising strip joints and surfing internet porn.

Thanks for the post. This seems a bit convenient to me, but we'll see how it all falls out. Looks to me like the Feds might be giving immunity to someone for info, and then using these two as the scapegoats. If that is indeed what it going down, then I hope the "informant" has an unfortunate accident sometime within the next few months.

Theory:
THey (ALL the terrorists) worked with Anthrax/Biological weapons....without any protection. They weren't worrying about dying from it. The KNEW they were going to die from it....so that was enough incentive to go forward with the air attacks. Sort of like a ticking time bomb?
Become exposed the biological weapon...they have anywhere from 2-11 days to carry out the mission, and if they fail they die a terrible death from the anthrax..etc..
Consider how, in the future they could RECRUIT new terrorists this way....expose them and tell them to find a way to die within 48 hours or 'all-ahh' will be upset and the bug they have will be painful.
Hmmm..sounds like a movie script.

The pharmacist should have called the FBI -- who would have caught him "red-handed".... (couldn't resist it).

Highly symbolic. That red stuff is called blood.........and he has plenty of it on his hands.

MacBeth, Act V, Scene1
Lady MacBeth
Out, damned spot! out, I say!--One: two: why,
then, 'tis time to do't.--Hell is murky!--Fie, my
lord, fie! a soldier, and afeard? What need we
fear who knows it, when none can call our power to
account?--Yet who would have thought the old man
to have had so much blood in him.

Red hands? Chest cold? Anthrax? You choose.

I'll bet he wore latex gloves while working with either chemical or biologic agents and had latex allergy.
