The last paragraph of the linked article.

The Senate approved an amendment offered by Sen. John Breaux (news - bio - voting record), D-La., to study the use by flight crews of nonlethal weapons to disable would-be hijackers. Senators also passed by voice an amendment by Sen. Bob Smith, R-N.H., that authorizes the Federal Aviation Administration (news - web sites) to permit pilots to carry guns. Under the measure, airlines and pilots would make the decision whether to put weapons in the cockpit.

The way I read it, is that the FAA cannot block any airline that wishes for it's Pilots to carry a firearm.

FAA IS THE ENTITY KEEPING ANY WEAPONS OUT OF THEIR HANDS NOW

The FAA is part of the executive branch, and thus reports to the president. All it would take is an order from Bush, and they would have to issue the OK.

LOL! Just LOOK at the difference.

The Democrat wants the Senate to authorize a study on the use of non-lethal weapons.
The Republican wants the Senate to authorize the use of (Constitutionally-mentioned) guns.

Which method do YOU think would do the most good? A study? Or actual physical protection?

Great news. How can I find out who voted for and who voted against this?

This was a "voice" vote, not one Senator voted "officially" yes or no.

I actually can't believe that this was voted on by the "voice" of the Senate. You would think that Schumer, Hillary, or another democrat would have asked for a recorded vote.

"I smell a rat. The post says that the amendment "authorizes" the FAA to permit pilots to carry guns. Doesn't this seem to mean that the decision to carry is being left to the FAA? WELL, PILOTS HAVE TOLD ME THAT THE FAA IS THE ENTITY KEEPING ANY WEAPONS OUT OF THEIR HANDS NOW."

In the past 4 weeks I've read somewhere something along these lines...that someone in the pilots union found out that FAA has been authorized to permit pilots to carry firearms all along....however, all the pilots that were asked said they had never heard that before. Apparently the FAA didn't WANT the pilots to be armed. Help, somebody!! Was that posted on FR or did I read that elsewhere?

Could somebody PLEASE post the "yea" & "ney" votes. I'll be willing to bet my $900 golf bag that Chuckie "the face" and Hillary "the bit@ch" voted against it.

This is great!!! Now the screaching, hysteric, liberals, who won't come near a home with a gun should stay away from air travel. Oh... if we could only find a way to keep them from leaving their houses too...

I can see the "This Cockpit Protected by Glock" stickers now.

I can hear the liberal shreiks of terror!!!

I'm assuming that for $900 the golf bag has a beer keg and tap installed in it?

this is excellent news, now they just need to secure the cockpit doors better and then they can get rid of or greatly reduce the number of sky marshalls, at great cost savings.

Where in the Constitution is the federal government given the authority to determine who can and cannot carry a firearm?

Interstate commerce? I think this one actually makes sense. Especially from the public safety angle.

I just got to thinkin'...when this thing is over there isn't going to be a "rubber room" left in this country. They are all going to occupied by lefty, commie, liberty hating demoncRATS. They are losing their elitist-socialist minds. The American people are awakening and they don't like what they are seeing.

Can't you just see it...you drive by Roselawn Mental Hospital and there's a "NO VACANCY" sign out front. You walk around the grounds and see Hillery and Teddy in straight jackets, her blubbering about "the children", and him begging , "Just a beer!....Just a beer...Hell, a beer's not drinking". Then there will be the bearded lil' Albert walking around in a trance like, drugged up state mumbling, over and over again, "but what about Dingle/Norwood?"

We'll sharpen our teeth on these cowardly terrorist bastards and after that's over we'll start, peacefully, at the ballot box, taking out the terrorists within. Beware commies in the gov.......you're next! I think they are beginning to see it. Prison for the above mentioned traitors is also a viable option. That's a good picture too.

Maybe this was prompted by the threats of more terrorism this weekend.
