KENTUCKY DISHONORS VETERANS

I am sure you are all aware of the importance of the POW/MIA Flag. This flag was designed to honor the 92,000 American servicemen who are still missing since WW 1. The flag is also intended to honor the families of those 92,000 servicemen. These families and other loved ones have no place to go to stand above the remains of their loved one, profess their love for them, begin the grieving process, nor start finding closure for their loss.
The POW/MIA Flag proudly flies above of thousands of city, county, state, and federal buildings and facilities. The flag also flies over tens of thousands of businesses and private homes. The flag is displayed on motorcycles, cars and trucks across our country.
The flag has no political, religious nor racial undertones. It is, as stated, displayed to say thank you and we'll never forget to our missing brothers.
I am ashamed to say that in Kentucky some politicians have determined that the flag is offensive .
In Lexington , KY., Mayor Pam Miller had the flag removed from in front of the City Hall, after it had proudly flown there , daily, since 24 Sept. 2000. The Kentucky Vietnam Memorial is the only Vietmam Memorial, in the nation, where the POW/MIA Flag does not fly daily.
When we asked Mayor Miller why the flag was taken down she stated that some people had complained and the flag was staying down. She refused to tell us who complained and why. Shealso said she didn't care how many e-mails, phone calls or letters she received it would stay down, because she was not running for re-election and didn't care.
WE CAN NOT LET THIS HAPPEN. THE FLAG MEANS TO MUCH TO TO MANY PEOPLE. TO MANY DEDICATED PEOPLE HAVE WORKED TO HARD AND DONATED TOO MUCH OF THEIR TIME AND RESOURCES TO GET THOSE FLAGS FLYING.
We are obviously dealing with a politician who through a lack of courage and integrity has allowed herself, and her values, to be compromised by some "anti-American" special interest group. I say "anti-American" because I can not imagine any person , or group, who would be offended by this flag at anytime, let alone during this time of national crisis.
Please take the time to pass this along and to send Mayor Miller an e-mail to show your feelings.
This is just the start. If she succeeds in having our flag removed, others like her, and those who complained, will continue to disparage and disrespect our men and women in the military.
Her address is, mayor@lfucg.com

#139: I don't want to seem too dramatic. The reference is to a piece of one 68-69TGYC's fingers, that went into the drink on a detroyer's combat run during Operation Bold Mariner, Feb 69.
That's right, isn't it TGYC? Hope its not too personal. You've mentioned it here before.
He's tried to re-up for this war too, though. Which says an awful lot about keeping that same faith.... Still.

I just walked past the City Government building here in Lexington, and there were four flags flying.
The American Flag (Thank goodness it was on top)
The LFUCG (local government) Flag
A Tree City USA flag from the Arbor Day Foundation (fitting)
Some insignificant flag that I could not make out.
I'm not sure about the Vietnam Memorial, but that is what flies above the local government offices, and MIA/POW is definitely not there.
Pretty pathetic if you ask me.

WASHINGTON (AP) Congress completed work on an agreement normalizing trade between the United States and Vietnam, and President Bush is expected to sign the measure.
The Senate's 88-12 vote Wednesday 10/03/01 ``represents an important step in the healing process'' between the two former enemies, said the Senate Finance Committee chairman, Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., ``a step that has been a long time in coming.''
The House endorsed the measure last month, and Bush said he would sign it.The trade agreement, negotiated by the Clinton White House last year, ``will provide American companies with access to a large and growing market, and, through the reforms it promotes, it will help create a more prosperous and engaged Vietnam,'' Bush said in a statement after the Senate vote.
Vietnam would benefit from the same low tariffs the United States sets for its other trading partners. In return, Vietnam is to reduce its tariffs, eliminate nontariff barriers, protect intellectual property rights and open its markets to American service and investment companies.
The United States and Vietnam had no formal relations and limited contacts in the two decades after U.S. troops left Vietnam in 1973. The first President Bush initiated cooperation in such areas as accounting for MIAs. In 1994, President Clinton lifted the trade embargo and the next year he established diplomatic relations. In 1998, he issued the first waiver making commercial deals with Vietnam eligible for U.S. government loans and credit guarantees.
But Vietnam has remained one of only six nations denied normal trade relations, subjecting Vietnamese goods to far higher tariffs. The other countries are Afghanistan, Cuba, North Korea, Laos and Yugoslavia. Vietnam is the world's 14th-most-populous nation, with 80 million people, but trade with the United States was only about $1.2 billion last year. Estimates are that Vietnam's exports to the United States, mainly shrimp, coffee and light manufactured goods, could more than double with normal trade relations.
Opposition to the deal came mainly from lawmakers who asserted that Vietnam has not fully cooperated in accounting for MIAs from the Vietnam War and should not be entitled to normal trade because of its poor human rights record.
``If those who want to normalize relations with Vietnam choose to ignore the numerous human rights violations of that country, is that right?'' asked Sen. Bob Smith, R-N.H.
Concerns were also raised by Mississippi Delta senators, who said the agreement lacked protections for the catfish industry. Vietnamese imports, said Sen. Tim Hutchinson, R-Ark., are ``absolutely destroying our domestic catfish industry.''
Leading the effort to normalize ties with Vietnam were three senators who served in the Vietnam War: Sens. John Kerry, D-Mass., Chuck Hagel, R-Neb., and John McCain, R-Ariz., a former prisoner of war.
Because Vietnam is a communist state, its normal trade status will still be subject to annual review, requiring the president to waive the requirement that Vietnam allow free emigration.
Vietnam's prime minister initiated the ratification process in Vietnam by sending the trade agreement
to President Tran Duc Long.

I have contacted my Marine buddies and they are contacting our brothers in KY. From what I understand and this is second hand since I am in CA but this has been going on in KY for four years. I will make some more calls but the mayor's office in Lexington obviously lied to me yesterday when I called them and they said that the POW/MIA flag had not been taken down. I hope our KY FReepers are alerted and putting pressure on the powers that be since this is their state and their representatives who are responsible... Semper Fi, Mike

I love it, Bubbette, or "Buh-Bette" Geeze Pete that's a really tough choice....I'd like to change her occupation to slug, she already is a parasite....
Schumer is just so disgusting, didn't think anyone could make him look somewhat normal, but the idiots of my state managed that impossible feat....

MARINE BUMP. I have notified all my Viet Nam Marine Corps brothers. We have confirmation that the POW/MIA flag is not flying in not only Lexington but evidently not in the entire state of Kentucky. Please notify all members and especially those who live in or from Kentucky. This is outrageous. For up to date information on the situation in Kentucky you can email: CKYDAN2@cs.com and request information regarding the removal of the POW/MIA flags in Kentucky. Please get involved for the sake of all those who did not return from battles dating back to WWI. Semper Fi, Mike

Shealso said she didn't care how many e-mails, phone calls or letters she received it would stay down, because "she's was not running for re-election and didn't care".The last sentence pretty well says it for all lying politicians.
Conversely, if she were an honest office seeker she would do what is right whether or not she was running for re-election.
Her arrogance is very Clintonesque.

Please keep us advised as to the Kentucky situation. It'd be nice when you find out what comes of your activism that you'd ping me. :)

Well, I have to admit I didn't know about anybody left in the South China Sea - but it sounded right. I thought maybe it had to do with the Pacific Campaign.
Thank you for filling me in, because YatchMan is one of my heroes. But he knows that already. :)
As far as re-upping, didn't he indeed join something? I feel guilty, but forget now what he said it is.

THis is really strange. Some politicians in the US are caving in to threats of violence and what not like crumbling pie crust. Either they are cowards, actualy threatened, black mailed or abetters of the enemy, or a combination of these.

I found it ...
-----------
The Navy said I was too old, The Oregon National Guard would not accept me because I just turned 53. I met with the Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla Commander today and it turns out that I have a few skills that they need and can utilize.
My application should be approved in about 10 days. Also as of Sept 11 the Coast Guard itself is under the command of the Department of Defense.
While the Auxiliary is not part of the military, it can and does support military actions. I'm just glad that this old rusty tin can sailor can help protect our country again.
PS Chief and all Marines: I'd be glad to fight with all of you again, anytime, anywhere.

Seems to be the common thread for much of the idiocy we see in this Country, sorry to say.
