Annan to address US public in nationally broadcast Town Hall meeting{ Your New President}

9 October – Kofi Annan, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, will address the United States public on 11 October - one month to the day after the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington D.C. - during a Town Hall meeting that will be broadcast nationwide.

Moderated by Walter Cronkite, the event will enable Mr. Annan to engage the US public in a conversation by reaching out to their communities. Via satellite from the UN in New York, the Secretary-General will detail how the UN can support the global effort against terrorism. After his address, he will take questions from people gathered in ten cities - Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Seattle, St. Louis and Tampa.

Each individual city will host a panel of experts and a local moderator to facilitate ongoing discussion after the satellite portion of the broadcast concludes. The focus of the local meetings will be the impact of the terrorist attacks on the United States and the world. Some of the moderators include NBC's Bob Costas in St. Louis, former Colorado Senator Tim Wirth in Boston, and the National President of the League of Women Voters, Carolyn Jefferson-Jenkins, in Denver. The invitation only audience will be comprised of business and civic leaders, elected officials, youth, community leaders and clergy.

The Town Hall meeting is being produced by The Better World Campaign, a project of the Better World Fund, a sister organization to the United Nations Foundation. The Fund was created from a portion of an initial gift of $1 billion from American philanthropist and businessman Ted Turner. The organization is a bi-partisan, non-profit education and outreach initiative that aims to enhance awareness and appreciation for the work of the UN and the role it plays in international affairs.

The "Attack on America" was an act of war against the United States and its citizens. The U.S. Constitution states clearly that our military will, first and foremost, be used to defend our own country, but the record shows that in the name of UN goals, our military have been used around the world in so-called "peacekeeping" ventures.

It is my opinion that the United States has the right to defend its own nation, without any input or suggestions from the UN, which frankly hasn't a very good record of "keeping the peace."

We do not have to turn to the UN to defend our nation, and Walter Cronkite is one who is alleged to prefer that we live under a world government such as the UN. Ted Turner, for all his money and influence, is also one who wishes to legitimize the UN as a needed organization that we can't live without.

Last September, 2000 the UN was trying to sell the world on their Charter For Global Democracy. It was approved by acclamation by the UN General Assembly. That is a far cry from a vote by each nation. Anyone who has compared the Charter for Global Democracy with the U.S. Constitution will find quite a difference, and if they accept the Charter in favor of the U.S. Constitution, then they will eventually find that their individual freedoms will soon be washed away.

I prefer to put my faith in the U.S. Constitution and having our own government rule our destiny. As many others have said, I join those who say: "Get the US out of the UN and get the UN out of the US." We do not need the UN and world government and it would be well if we handled our own affairs instead of depending on the UN. If not, was was our independence will reduce itself to interdependence; and if we depend upon UN interdependence, then we will end up with dependence.

Governments to finalize procedures making Kyoto Protocol 'fully operational'

9 October – The world's governments are to converge on Marrakech, Morocco, at the end of this month to finalize the procedures and institutions needed to make the Kyoto Protocol fully operational, the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) announced today.

Gathering for the seventh Conference of the parties to the Convention on Climate Change from 29 October to 9 November, the participants will aim to translate the political principles reached at a meeting in Bonn last July into a detailed operational rulebook. They will also address how to increase the flow of financial and technological support to developing countries under the Convention.

"The work of translating the Bonn Agreements into a detailed operational rulebook must be completed here in Marrakech," said Michael Zammit Cutajar, the Convention's Executive Secretary.

"Certainty about the Kyoto Protocol's rules will further motivate businesses and other economic actors to create the low-carbon economy of the future," he said. "It will also clear the way for governments to ratify the Protocol and bring it into force. Marrakech should be turning point that enables the Protocol to move into high gear."

With the new funding and rules in place, the Parties to the Convention could start discussing the political issues that are likely to dominate the next few years, including the widespread desire to re-engage the United States in emissions limitation, the second period for emissions cuts under the Protocol (on which negotiations should start by 2005) and the prospects for expanding the group of countries with emissions targets, the UNFCCC said.

The Kyoto Protocol will enter into force and become legally binding after it has been ratified by at least 55 parties to the Convention, with industrialized countries representing at least 55 per cent of the total 1990 carbon dioxide emissions from this group. So far, 39 countries have ratified, including one industrialized country, Romania.

I am not for funding the U.N. but this was an agreement he had nothing to do with and Congress agreed to this and when I sign a contract, I consider that my word and promise to keep. As much as I dislike the notion of giving the U.N. a thin dime, we signed the deal, or should I say Klinton signed the deal.

As much as I hate the U.N. we don't need the matter like back dues becomming an issue when we could be facing 1 billion Muslims waging a holy war against us. We will lead this effort to eliminate these cells of terrorist, and I think I am correct when I say Bush has not asked them to lead this effort, unlike "Desert Storm" where we let a U.N. resolution decide when we ended the war. We have an open ended right to do what it takes to stop the threat of terrorism right now.
