Unbelievably ignorant comment. Bonds hit 73 HRs during a pennant race when no one would pitch to him. McGwire, as great as he was, only was intentionally walked once in his last 46 games because the Cards were out of the race early, while Bonds got intentionally walked constantly. You need not like the guy to respect what he's done.

For those of us who's local TV stations aren't carrying the game, ESPN 2 said they will cut away from their current game ( Houton/St. Louis) and show every time Bonds comes to bat in their game.

Pre 9/11/01, Bonds was averaging one homerun for every 6.7 plate appearances.

Post 9/11/01 has him hitting one every 5.

The one to look out for may be Geoff Jenkins. Why? Well, you see, Mark McGwire hold USC's record for homers, but Jenkins was going to break it when he left a year early to play for the Brewers.

If the Brewers ever ditch their incompetent training staff, Jenkins may put his numbers in the company of Bonds and McGwire.

Although I'd asterik Bonds' record myself. Safeco field's got a very short right-field fence. Almost TOO short, IMHO.

Hey, it's a great day. Sure, hitting 73 isn't in the same league with bombing the Taliban after careful preparation, but as I said earlier, it's "icing on the cake." It's a great day. We can use every small piece of good news we can get.

In 1930 the league batting averages were around .300 and the leagie ERAs were near 5.00. It didn't distort baseball then. I doubt this rash of broken HR records will do so either.

He's a streaky hitter, no doubt.

He hit 39 homers before July 1st. But then he went 19 games without a homer.

McGwire hit 5 homers in his last 3 games in 1998. That's a pace of...

270 homers a year!
