Our allies act before we do - What does this make of us?

Bush's idiotic "crusade" remark and Powell have backpedaled the US into PCville. Sad. Terribly sad. When Bush opens his mouth, the Ted Turner Dread set in.
Then there is the Invisible Viceroy, Cheney. What is disquieting to the American people is how MIA Bush and Cheney seem compared with Blair.

I'm not disquieted.
In fact, I'm buoyed by Blair's articulate, steadfast, emphatic presence. The world knew from the beginning we would respond. Blair has let them know we aren't alone, his enthusiastic support is significant, to friend and foe alike.

To tell the truth, most of my countrymen I am acquainted with take the view that fighting this war is absolutely necessary. Call it the Winston Factor, we are ready to fight. Even the Labour Party is ready to fight, which is damn peculiar.
Speaking about myself, in what I think and what I've felt since the attack, there is a certain hard edge, a certain rage, a certain anger against those who did it. And I think these feelings are widely held.
Sterner days, indeed.

If Tony Blair is something of a hero in the American press and public opinion today, it is not just because he knows the meaning of the word "alliance".No, it's because the LIBERAL media wants to diminish Bush.
George W. Bush is leading this fight and Tony wants to take credit. How typical!

Glad to hear from you. "there is a certain hard edge, a certain rage, a certain anger against those who did it."And Blair expresses it so well. I'm reminded of his plaintive remarks after Diana's death...he captured your nation's emotional state so well, and I believe he's done it again.

Call it the Winston FactorThis is great.! The line in the sand! The war this time is Civilization vs the Barbarians. A rather clear distinction - even the Labour Party gets it. The Democrat Party over here are solidly with President Bush, too.

Oh for sure, you're right....a bit of self-serving grandstanding might be at play here, but we're used to that from politicians, aren't we? I think Hitchens hits the right tone in applauding the value of Blair's enthusiastic support of US retaliation.

I'll stand with the British but the LIBERAL media just makes me grind my teeth.
To: Cincinatus' Wife
teeth grinding here too. The media loves reminding us what great pals Clinton and Blair are, as if that detracts from Bush. But take heart. Don't you love the way Bush 'handles' the grandstanders..the gracious way he ignores the aggravating background noise from the Clinton camp? As if it's too inconsequential to acknowledge. President Bush is so self-assured, confident, so above all that cat fighting..which makes Clinton seem even more pathetically desperate for attention.

And have you noticed how he includes everyone and thanks everyone involved, how he stands back not seeking the praise?
To: YaYa123
Be very carefull ...Blair cares nothing for the US...he seeks a One World Government...his socialist philosphy should never be forgotten....Blair now carries a copy of the Koran at all times for "inspiration and courage" - a habit he picked up from President Clinton's daughter.
For those that think a One World Government is just the rantings of the right-wing fringe from the front page of the London Telegraph
New currency for a new world
By George Jones, Political Editor
TONY BLAIR yesterday gave his strongest signal that he wants to join the European single currency within four years as he outlined his vision of a new world order rising from the ashes of the terrorist attacks on America. After months of sending out conflicting messages on the euro, he indicated that he would use his enhanced authority as a war leader and the changed world circumstances since September 11 to argue for greater co-operation with Europe.

Blair cares nothing for the US
Untrue. His attack on anti-Americanism was unnecessary yet brilliant.
Furthermore, he could have wimped out like the Frogs - he has the majority - but he stepped up to the plate.
I agree we need to be wary of what he does outside of handling the war, but so far, he has been steadfast in remaining close to the Americans, in spite of objections from his own party. As I say, he has flashes of brilliance, times when he does precisely the right thing.
I realise this doesn't fit in with a mindset that sees everything as either all good or all bad, but there you have it, someone who proves that they can be brilliant some of the time.

YES!!!
As in "humble". Remember how important that word was to President Bush as he assumed office? Proof once again, that President Bush lives by the words he speaks, it's not just impressive sounding but empty rhetoric He isn't a glory hog, a grandstanding gladhander, always seeking the limelight, always sensing where the camera is. This unselfish behavior must be so bizarre to the mainstream media, so un-Clinton, they don't know how to describe it...and they don't want to give him kudos anyway.
