Thread III
Last night, Herb Meadows' life was abruptly taken by an unexpected fire in his home.
We are blessed with our association with Herb Meadows as our Internet Campaign Manager and friend. Herb blessed the lives of everyone he touched as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, political activist, and United States Marine.
Herb was part of something much bigger than most of us ever get an opportunity to experience.
Herb Meadows embodied the passion and the commitment that has made America great. We have all suffered a loss by his passing, and yet we were fortunate to be blessed by his passion and commitment. In his work, he brought hope for change and inspired us to make a difference for our country.
At Americans for Fair Taxation, it was our privilege briefly to glimpse the love for our country and the commitment to excellence thatcharacterize Herb. Our gratitude for that experience cannot be expressed in words.
We would like to take this opportunity to say thank you, Herb, for the passion, the courage, and the principle, that you exhibited, not just on a daily basis, but on a continuing, moment-to-moment basis.
It is this passion and dedication that will inspire us in the future.
It is the model of your tenacity that will help us in moments when self-doubt threatens to overcome our commitment.
Thank you, Herb, and may we honor you by continuing your work in making the river of myriad voices seeking fundamental improvement in our country flow swifter and faster than even you dreamed possible.
Thank you for touching our lives in a most extraordinary way.
Barbara Gould

BUMP Thank you for the ping 68. I replied earlier, but thank you for making sure I saw this. This is such a sad time in everyone's lives.

Thank you, kind sir. We are much richer people for having known Barbara, John and Herb as FReedom loving, patriotic Americans, and much poorer for having lost them.
I hope it is appropriate to say, in our time of grief, that it is more important to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all.
RIP, dear FReeper FRiends. You will be missed.

Thanks, Texasgirl.
I know there has to be heroes in Heaven, and the CHIEF is sitting with them right now telling war stories.
For the CHIEF's sake, I thank you and your husband for that big Semper Fi.
He lived by that.

Thank you for the comforting words Taxman. You take care of yourself now. You are also one of my best cyber friends. You and Chief taught me more about taxes than I ever wanted to know. :)

I know Chief probably didn't have a lot of love for me, but this hits a little close to home, it's a terrible thing to happen and I'm deeply hurt that it did.
Given the circumstances, I can only think of what a terrible ordeal this is/was for Mrs. Meadows...I hope all will be well for her again soon....
My sincerest condolences to her and the rest of his family.

That is beautiful Registered. Got me crying again. I just wonder if he ever had any idea just how special he was to so many people.
Life is short. We need to let people know how much we care about them when they are here with us because we never know what tomorrow will bring.
I remember my first FReeper get together at Landry's in Kima. I didn't know a soul except on line. I walked in the room and Chief greeted me. I told him I was Texas Mom and he gave me a hug. Then announced to everyone. Hey, this is Texas Mom. From that moment on there wasn't a stranger in the room. I met people that day who became life long friends. As buffyT said that day. "It was like meeting your best friend for the first time." I know Herb used that quote many times and it was true.
I don't know why God took him when we all needed him so much but God's ways are not always our ways and God's timing isn't always our timing either. I was always taught not to question God. But I'm sorry, today I do. I think God understands. I pray for comfort for Mrs. Chief and thankful she is okay. I know she is heartbroken..
Registered. Your tribute is beautiful.

Hate to admit it, Looey - but THIS time you're right (partly :-).
Herb didn't hate you - or anyone else. He was merely struggling to try to help bring about the FairTax system to benefit the country ... including you.
You kind sentiments, though, I know are well intended and when Belinda - and the rest of the family - reads all these threads I'm sure they will realize that Herb was liked and actually admired by even those who didn't always agree with him.

Thanks to you and Laz, Joe, for organizing this. It's a fitting gesture for FR to be a resource to help the Meadows family. The CHIEF was an important goodwill ambassador here; everybody knows who he is whether they met him personally, traded smart talk with him online, or were just lurkers who appreciated fun, meaningful and good spirited banter. Nobody helped newbies feel welcome with gentle admonishment, humor and support like he did. He patiently told me on my first night here that my problem with multiple posts was directly related to my problem with impatient multiple hitting the reply button!!! ^;) I think he also told me, after answereing my inquiry, that my question about what "bump" meant served the same purpose as posting the single word "bump." Took me 27 months to figure that little mind puzzle out.

Dammit T-man, he couldda been yer brother...or my Dad's brother. Never had the honor of meeting CHIEF face-to-face, but I enjoyed many late night conversations with this Patriot. After 9-11, I questioned if I could feel any more sorrow...well, when it hits this close to home, I now know I can.
I prayed for the CHIEF and his family last night...and I will do so again this evening.
Sad FReegards...MUD
