NYFD Battalion Chief John Moran (Freeper BCM) Perishes In World Trade Center
NY Daily News ^

Posted on 10/04/2001 1:22:45 PM PDT by AppyPappy

The bone-chilling wail of bagpipe playing "Amazing Grace" echoed through a Queens church yesterday as yet another fallen firefighter from the World Trade Center tragedy was memorialized in death.

It was yet another day — of many more to come — for Masses and memorial services for both heroic rescue workers and innocent civilians lost in the flames and collapsing towers.

At the memorial Mass for 49th Battalion Chief John Moran, his younger brother, Firefighter Michael Moran of Ladder 3, recalled how he spoke to his brother by cell phone after the second plane crashed into the Trade Center.

"I told him to be careful," the younger Moran told mourners, including his brother's wife, Kim, and two sons, Ryan, 7, and Dylan, 4. "I didn't see him there that day, but now I see him all the time."

The memorial Mass at St. Francis de Sales Church in Belle Harbor, Queens, was conducted by the fallen firefighter's uncle, Father Paul Moran, who called his 42-year-old nephew's last assignment a "mission of love, to save life, not destroy it."

Mayor Giuliani called for a standing ovation for the 20-year fire veteran, who held a law degree from Fordham University and was injured in the Father's Day explosion at an Astoria hardware store that killed three firefighters.

The mayor said while Moran's two young sons may not fully comprehend all that's happened, "The thing I want them to understand for their entire life is that their father is a great man."

It is believed that John Moran is BMC. We have a picture from a freep Posted Here. Here is his Fire Dept Memorial http://www.ci.nyc.ny.us/html/f dny/html/memorial/wtc/moran_jo hn_bc_bat049.html. Here is a google search of his postsHere

This was the best time I've ever had in the pouring rain! I was shouting so hard that I can hardly speak today. While the chants were great and certainly got people's attention, I personally loved it when we sang "America the Beautiful" and "God Bless America." I think that really stopped people in their tracks (and completely confounded the liberals).

My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.
Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.

Day is done, gone the sun, From the hills, from the lake, From the skies. All is well, safely rest, God is nigh. Go to sleep, peaceful sleep, May the soldier or sailor, God keep. On the land or the deep, Safe in sleep.

Love, good night, Must thou go, When the day, And the night Need thee so? All is well. Speedeth all To their rest.

Fades the light; And afar Goeth day, And the stars Shineth bright, Fare thee well; Day has gone, Night is on.

Thanks and praise, For our days, 'Neath the sun, Neath the stars, 'Neath the sky, As we go, This we know, God is nigh.

He holds you in the palm of his hands, John Moran. V's wife.

The world really seems to have gone mad. This reminds me that John Moran and those thousands of other people who died that day weren't the only victims. I can't imagine how many people there are who are continuing to suffer because they had friends and relatives who perished in the attacks. They are all victims, as well. God rest each and every one of them, and God help us all.

To: AppyPappy, and to the family of Freepers BCM - John Moran, Jim and John Robinson
Thank you for tracking this information down, AP.

What a loss - for our country, for his family, and for Free Republic - but another gain for heaven!

Deepest sympathies go out to the Moran family and all who knew Chief John Moran.

How to best remember these two "Chiefs"? Find a way to contribute to our country. Ask God - and He will show you/me what we need to do.

Both of these men were ready to go and FIGHT - not run and hide! In the troubling and perhaps frightening days ahead, may we all remember Chief Negotiator Herb and Battalion Chief John, and their courage, and then carry on in similar manner. We will not forget!

RING THEM BELLS

Ring them bells, ye heathen
From the city that dreams,
Ring them bells from the sanctuaries
Cross the valleys and streams,
For they're deep and they're wide
And the world's on its side
And time is running backwards
And so is the bride.

Ring them bells St. Peter
Where the four winds blow,
Ring them bells with an iron hand
So the people will know.
Oh it's rush hour now
On the wheel and the plow
And the sun is going down
Upon the sacred cow.

Ring them bells Sweet Martha,
For the poor man's son,
Ring them bells so the world will know
That God is one.
Oh the shepherd is asleep
Where the willows weep
And the mountains are filled
With lost sheep.

Ring them bells for the blind and the deaf,
Ring them bells for all of us who are left,
Ring them bells for the chosen few
Who will judge the many when the game is through.
Ring them bells, for the time that flies,
For the child that cries
When innocence dies.

Ring them bells St. Catherine
From the top of the room,
Ring them from the fortress
For the lilies that bloom.
Oh the lines are long
And the fighting is strong
And they're breaking down the distance
Between right and wrong.

Lyrics by Bob Dylan.

May the road rise up to meet you:
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
May the rain fall soft upon your fields,
And until we meet again
May God hold you in the hollow of his hand.

R.I.P., BCM.

This is the saddest night we've experienced in our village. Two heros lost in one day. My heart is heavy. May God shelter and reward both of these men who sacrificed so much for their country, and may God give their families some sign of peace as they mourn. God bless the wee children.

Not only will this man be remembered for that final brave act, but for the smaller moments in his life, like FReeping, that have made him the hero he deserves to be. Very sad.
