Conservative columnist Ann Coulter, fired from her contributing editor perch at the National Review Online, blames it on free-speech hysteria in the wake of the Sept. 11 attacks. In a recent online column, Coulter opined that the United States should respond forcefully to the terrorist attacks: "We should invade their countries, kill their leaders, and convert them to Christianity," she said. The comment provoked an uproar, and the National Review Online subsequently refused to run another Coulter piece in which she referred to "swarthy males." When Coulter complained, she was fired. Tuesday's Washington Post quotes Coulter as saying she doesn't need friends like that. "Every once in awhile they'll throw one of their people to the wolves to get good press in left-wing publications," she told the newspaper. National Review Online Editor Jonah Goldberg told the Post, "We didn't feel we wanted to be associated with the comments expressed in those two columns." Coulter told the Washington Post she's getting great publicity as a result of the flap.

What's so tyrannical about it? Let's say I run a periodical and you're one of my columnists. I pay your salary, I pay for your media and I pay for advertising that gets people to buy the magazine and possibly read your column (ie I pay for your audience). My money is the source of everything you have; so you shouldn't put stuff in your column that gets me PO'd. It's not like we're in the age of Hearst anymore. If you really want to write columns that will irritate me go work for somebody else. Or post screeds on the web under a pseudonym. Nobody has a monopoly of communication anymore (not sure they ever did, Hearst sure came close though). Writers have the same recourse as anybody else who works for someone they don't agree with, just because their job is "speech" doesn't give them some magical bye that means they no longer have to make their boss happy; and it shouldn't, they still have a job and as everybody else in America can tell you duty one in any job is make the boss happy.

Name one good, positive thing that has come from Islam and its beliefs.
Compare the fruits of Islam to the fruits of Judeo-Christian inspired civilization.
Matthew - Chapter 7, The New Testament, The Holy Bible, King James Version
15 ¶ Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheeps clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

Wasn't she actually referring to those Clinton/Gore Administration appointees and shills who STILL control the bureaucracy here in Washington, D.C.? :-\

Er...don't you think you are really stretching it to say Maher was refering to the "Clinton administration as cowards"? That would really be news!!! He was refering to "the military".

A couple of offers from the local cable access channel's "Kill em all for Jesus" show no doubt. That would still have a bigger audience than the LP.

"Every once in awhile they'll throw one of their people to the wolves to get good press in left-wing publications," I do so love this woman's use of the language.

My first take was oh, Ann's just being outrageous - after all, the likelihood of that happening is simply ridiculous.
However, upon further reflection, it cannot be denied that the most advanced countries in terms of economics, personal freedom and access to information are those states where Christianity is the dominant religion. Coincidental???

The wolves at Fox already have Anne.

When I heard the comment originally, I agreed with Maher..until the part where he said the terrorists were NOT cowards. When refering to countries that lob cruise missiles from 2000 miles away and kill civilians..he could ONLY be refering to the Clinton administration. Soldiers FOLLOW orders, they do not initiate bombing runs on their own.

"radical Muslims ALSO believe that all non-Muslims do not believe in the "correct" God. Those who wish to partake of Eternal Life will need to address their complaints to the only one who can offer same.
He left adequate evidence of who he is for all of us to read, and observe.
To those who wish to invent their own way:
Enjoy!

National Review Online Editor Jonah Goldberg told the Post, "We didn't feel we wanted to be associated with the comments expressed in those two columns." Jonah Goldberg = Arianna Huffington
'nuff said.

Coincidental??? And so it only follows that we should invade any nation which is NOT Christian, kill their leaders, and force them to convert to Christianity at gunpoint just like good old Ann said we should.
Right?
