Fired Conservative Columnist Anne Coulter Getting 'Great Publicity'
CNS News ^ | 10/2/01

Conservative columnist Ann Coulter, fired from her contributing editor perch at the National Review Online, blames it on free-speech hysteria in the wake of the Sept. 11 attacks. In a recent online column, Coulter opined that the United States should respond forcefully to the terrorist attacks: "We should invade their countries, kill their leaders, and convert them to Christianity," she said. The comment provoked an uproar, and the National Review Online subsequently refused to run another Coulter piece in which she referred to "swarthy males." When Coulter complained, she was fired. Tuesday's Washington Post quotes Coulter as saying she doesn't need friends like that. "Every once in awhile they'll throw one of their people to the wolves to get good press in left-wing publications," she told the newspaper. National Review Online Editor Jonah Goldberg told the Post, "We didn't feel we wanted to be associated with the comments expressed in those two columns." Coulter told the Washington Post she's getting great publicity as a result of the flap.

How odd, it is just ever so fine and dandy to invade and kill, but we will have NO CONVERTING to Christianity. Funny.

"swarthy males." = darker skinned

An accurate statement and description. Orwell predicted this elimination of words and phrases that are not deemed politically correct.

Long Live Ann Coulter.

That would still have a bigger audience than the LP.

Dang it!
My LP filter let that post through...

"If you see anything in her words which suggests she favors allowing them a choice, please explain it to me."

I suspect that your puzzlement stems from a lack of understanding of Islam. - Islam is not followed due to belief, it is the law in islamic countries. One follows Islam from birth because if one does not, he loses hands, feet, sex organs, or his head, depending upon the extent of his heresy, and what the Mullah had for breakfast.

To 'convert' such people to anything merely requires sufficient threat of violence, since that is the basis of their culture. - The article was Satire; get a grip.

To truly believe, one must submit totally to all that he has presented to us, not jump ship when he fulfilled his most important prophecy.

If you are truly serious about "one must submit totally to all that he has presented to us", then I suggest you speak to a Rabbi and ask him about the Torah and how it is read using Gematria. You may find that there is more to everything than you previously thought.

"Once they're Christian, maybe they'll behave like Christians--like in Northern Ireland, for example."(mccain2004)

By your own words above, you have shown your anti-Christian bigotry. Also, you must be one of those members of the "politically correct" chattering classes who had a problem with the President's use of the word "Crusade", too. Give your arrogant snideness a rest, mccain2004. We already know that you probably look down on Muslims as much as you do on Christians.

Totally agree with your above #89.

I've met Anne on several occasions. She's good people. It'll be NRO's loss.

. Johan has all the loyality to conservatism as Gary Bauer. With none of Bauer's masculinity.

Now, that's funny!

Once they're Christian, maybe they'll behave like Christians--like in Northern Ireland, for example.

Only a handful of the total population of Christians in the world live in Northern Ireland. Only a tiny percentage of them believe that their terrorist actions are justified by their religion. There is so little support among the Christians of the world for the behavior of those in Northern Ireland that it is statistically zero.

On the other hand all of the practicing believers of Islam believe in Jihad (holy war/struggle) against the Kafir (you and me). They believe that their actions are justified by their religion.

Your comparison is weak, at best.

Name one good, positive thing that has come from Islam and its beliefs.

You are going to get a lot of flak from morons citing achievements from the Golden Age of Islam, 700 years in the past.

They missed the part where aliens came to earth around the 14th century and took all of the original Muslims, and left genetically altered pigs in their place.

DERIVATIVE? or devisive?

The first. Jonah Goldberg never had an original idea in his life. He cribs from others. He waits until he determines what the popular conservative opinion is and then does a rewrite with some juvenile quips he picks up on FR or from the Simpsons tossed in. Watch his writing. It is fascinating.

Anne is beside the point. What she said is no big deal. I suspect Jonah is doing this for his own PR as much as anything. Remember his big feud with Justin what-ever-his-name-is? Endless posts on FR about that tripe. Half of which, I suspect, came from Jonah. Or his mommie.

You're not one to believe that hyperbole has a place in creative writing?

As I mentioned in an earlier reply, that may in fact be true, she speaking figuratively rather than literally. The only thing is, MANY people took it literally.

Kool, - - It's about that you took a breath! - (and read a dictionary or two)

Ooh, like, wow, you really told me.

You are free to believe whatever you want. But it is arrogant and presumptuous for you to assert than anyone who does not believe in God the same way you do doesn't "really believe in God". Your triumphalism is offputting to those who do not accept your theology. I am a Jew. Shall I trumpet my beliefs and tell you how wrong you are?

It was a joke, for crying out loud! Can't you see that? I laughed my head off when I read it. So did others to whom I read it. Are you all so dense that Ann has to resort to "J.K.!" (teenage girl talk for "just kidding").

If it was a "joke"...
...It was a dumb joke.

The Ruling Elder of my church has a common prayer he often prays: "Lord, keep me from giving occasion to the Enemies of God to blaspheme". It's a prayer that many Christians -- not exempting myself here, and certainly including Ann Coulter -- would do well to pray themselves.
