Fellow Freepers would know more than anyone, so I am asking for some input on some entries into a Patriotic Music CD I am compiling - using only my own personal cd's - no copyright infringement, mp3 downloads here (heh heh).
What I have so far:
God Bless America - Kate Smith
Proud to be an American - Lee Greenwood
Ballad of the Green Berets - Barry Sadler
The Pledge of Allegience - Red Skelton
America, Why I Love Her - John Wayne
National Anthem - Leann Rimes
Okie From Muskogee - Merle Haggard
Battle Hymn of the Republic - Mormon Tabernacle Choir
God Bless America - Leann Rimes
America the Beautiful - Ray Charles
Facing British Lines - The Patriot Soundtrack
I would greatly appreciate any input or opinions that many of my patriotic Freeper brothers and sisters could offer.
Thanks in advance.
THE RED, WHITE, AND BLUE AND GREY
The Chuck Wagon Gang
Billy Joe and Johnny, both went off to war
While I was much to young, to shoot and ride
Billy went with Sherman, Johnny went with Lee
Left me and mama praying to both sides
Mama said don't worry, we're all in God's hands
And He knows what war is all about
She said He'd let us battle, for awhile then take command For in His eyes there is no North or South
(Chorus) Mother do you know where your sons are tonight
Do you know where they're fighting today
One sings Glory, Glory, One sings Look Away
For the Red, White and Blue and Grey
The war was finally over, and my brothers were no more
But mama's faith in God was just as strong
She said there'll be no fighting over on the other shore
So He took Billy Joe and Johnny home
(Chorus) Mother now you know where your sons are tonight
You know they're not fighting today
They're singing Glory, Glory,
And they're singing Look Away
For the Red, White and Blue and Grey
Mother now you know where your boys are tonight
You know they're not fighting today
They're singing Glory, Glory
And they're singing Look Away
For the Red, White and Blue and Grey
Glory, Glory Hallelujah Glory, Glory Hallelujah
Glory, Glory Hallelujah
For the Red, White and Blue and Grey
Good:
Livin' In America--James Brown
Battle Hymn of the Republic--(Which we were forbidden from singing here in Tucson at a memorial service for the victims because it was deemed "too militaristic."
America (O Beautiful for Spacious Skies ..."
This Land Is Your Land--Woody Guthrie
Bad:
Born in the USA--Bruce Springsteen (An anti-war screed from a knee-jerk leftist puke.)
Good ones not metioned yet:
The One Who Stands Alone (Hear their voices call like thunder, down through time we hear their call. Will you give yourself for freedom, and be the one who stands alone?"
Eternal Father, Strong to Save (Navy Hymn)
I Won't Run From You by Patriot
Fighting Side of Me by Merl Haggard
Pledge of Allegiance recited by Agnostic Front and audience, live recording
Oi!
Good Choice.
Only in America by Brooks and Dunn
And while it's not totally a "patriotic" song, Tracy Byrd and Mark Chestnutt's new song That's a Real Good Way to Get on my Bad Side has this great verse:
Politician on my TV
Says hes only lookin out for me
That he knows what the poor man needs in the long run
But every year he gives himself a raise
With a chunk of every buck I make
Now hes talkin like he wants to take my shotgun
Chorus:
Thats a good way
Thats a real good way
Thats a real good way to get on my bad side
Well, that's my country music two cents...
