Take the Gulf War. Our forces crushed the Iraqi army fleeing! We were just miles outside of Bagdad! The Kurds were ready to assault from the north and we would have had Saddam found and destroyed in a month. It was Powell that said, no there's been enough killing, and let the enemy live so he could kill 7000 of US citizens!I did not know that C. Powell was responsible for our not pursuing Saddam.
Schwarzkopf heavily implied it in an interview. He evidently was told to retract his statement. In a followup interview he basically took back what he said.
I've never trusted Powell since then.
