One Man’s Terrorist is Another Man’s Freedom Fighter
Reuter's Editorial Policy ^
Posted on 09/25/2001 2:23:47 PM PDT by Rosencrantz
Verbatim from Reuter's online editorial policy:
Why don't you describe terrorists as terrorists? One mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter. We abstain from judgement and believe that the word terrorist is a loaded term, preferring to use a more specific word, such as gunman, bomber, etc.

ter·ror·ism n.
The unlawful use or threatened use of force or violence by a person or an organized group against people or property with the intention of intimidating or coercing societies or governments, often for ideological or political reasons.
It doesn't matter what the ideological or political reason is, its tactic. Even if you agree with what a terrorist believes thats does not mean you have to agree with their actions. So yes, they may well be freedom fighters but, that does not mean they are not terrorists.

Welcome to FR. By the way, the US does not bomb civilians on a regular basis (even if bill clinton's Wag-the-dog foreign policy included the occasional indiscriminant bombing of third-world locales which resulted in civilian casualties).
I think if you read my post again you should see that I would never suggest that the scum who planned and executed these attacks were anything but terrorists.

I abstain from referring to Reuter's as a news organization. After all, one mans eyewitness report is another man's propoganda.

You described the Sandanistas to a tee. However, they were the communists that the Contras ultimately overthrew.

Since Hiroshima and Dresden, there are no longer untouchable 'innocent civilians'. Any hurt you can put on an enemy that will discourage them or cause them to use resources is a part of war. Rosie the Riveter was as much a part of our war effort as a GI. When you are in war all are in it together. That is why it is called war. There is no 'get out of war' pass any longer.

Yet, I will wager that they WILL use the word "extremist" when describing the activities of pro-life activist, and they will use the word "draconian" to describe GOP suggested "cuts" in the budget.

"freedom fighters"
Is it possible in any sense at all to describe the Taliban as "freedom fighters?" What freedoms are they fighting for? None. They are fighting to take away freedom from as many people as possible.

I assumed you didn't mean to equate our military to terrorists.
But after reviewing some of your posts, I see I was mistaken.

"He he... right... the same Ronald Reagan who claimed that insurgents who raped, tortured and killed Nicaraguan priests, nuns, schoolchildren, etc. were actually the "moral equivalent of our Founding Fathers."
Really? Care to site a credible source or is lying more amusing to you?
LOL! He never said it.
