A-bomb survivors in Hiroshima denounce U.S sub-critical nuclear test
A leader of an organization of atomic bomb survivors in Hiroshima has denounced U.S. plans to conduct a sub-critical nuclear test as intolerable.
@ Mr. Sunao Tsuboi said on Tuesday that terrorists' acts of indiscriminate murder can never be permitted.
But he said it is evident that the experiences of Hiroshima and Nagasaki clearly show that nuclear weapons kill huge numbers of people at random.
On Monday, the U.S. Energy Department announced that a sub-critical nuclear test will be conducted on Wednesday at a site in the state of Nevada.
U.S. intelligence reports say the al-Qa'ida network of Osama bin Laden has been interested in developing weapons of mass destruction, including chemical and nuclear weapons.
Our correspondent says the planned test is intended as an act of deterrence by the United States.

A leader of an organization of atomic bomb survivors in Hiroshima has denounced U.S. plans to conduct a sub-critical nuclear test as intolerable. And your Chemical and Biological tests on human civilans was tolerabe?
And your killing of 300k civilians in Nanking is tolerable?
And your forced march and starvation of Bataan survivors is tolerable?
And your cannibalization of Allied POW's to feed starving Japandes soldiers in New Guinea is tolerable?
And your beheading of Airforce Pilots 12 days after your surrender is tolerable?
And your deleting of your imperial militarism from your high school books is tolerable?
And your refusal to admit blame for the start of WW2 is tolerable?
We didn't drop enough nukes on Japan!

This is reminiscent of the tests before the end of WWII.

How do the Japanese feel about unauthorized sub-critical nuclear tests in Japan carried out by incompitent atomic energy workers -- like the one a couple of years ago that happened while mixing atomic materials in steel buckets at a processing plant north of Tokyo?
To: Frankiedi
What's "sub-critical" mean?

About bloody time we got back to nuclear testing.

Our correspondent says the planned test is intended as an act of deterrence by the United States. I fail to see how a sub-critical test by a nation with proven nuclear weapons capability will deter a bunch of wacko terrorists.

We didn't drop enough nukes on Japan! Yes we did.
This guy does not speak for Japan. He doesn't even speak for survivors of attacks on Japan in WWII. My guess is he's a lefty and that is who he speaks for.
Japan has pledged 100% support and are acting on it.

We set off a nuke with not enough U-235 or P-239 to go "boom"
Prudent to check that the triggers and all that other good stuff still work, so that when we drop a real one it has the desired effect.
Kabul weather: Today, sunny and hot. Tomorrow, scattered mushroom clouds with temperatures rising to 6000 degrees and winds from all around at 700-800 miles per hour.

The point of this article being posted by me is to illuminate the actions that we may take against terrorists.

This reminds me of one of the few things Clinton did that I liked. He turned his lawyer's eye for loopholes to the CTB (Comprehensive Test Ban) Treaty. In typically Clintonesque fashion, he found a way to sign the treaty a look like and hero to the lefties while continuing to test. (And do good science to boot!) The treaty bans "nuclear" explosions. "Sub-critical" test do not produce sustained nuclear reactions. These are not banned under the terms of the treaty. While they do not give as accurate a picture of yield as full tests do, they are useful to nuclear scientists. They allow tests of components such as triggers, explosive shells, and metalurgic studies. I'd have to review the treaty, but "fissionless" neutron bombs may also be legal to test.
Good ol' Slick! He found yet another way to screw over his pals.

Sub-critical means that the density in the "pit" doesn't go high enough to sustain a nuclear chain reaction. One way is to make it too small. Another is to use the wrong isotope. These tests allow you to evaluate the other components of the weapon without actually burning nuclear fuel.

The only possible explanation for this test is that we want to make sure the stuff still works.
If you were involved in knocking down the WTC and you knew America was dusting off the nukes, you would sh*t a brick.
As far as deterrence, I am sure that the word has gone out to Baghdad, Damascus, and other places known and unknown that an Ohio-class boomer is sitting in the Indian Ocean, and that if ANY-and I mean ANY-nuclear explosion or near explosion takes place in the United States that they are all going to fry.
As Napolean said-"pour encourager les autres".
