For the third time in a month Rush mentioned the e-mails about his voice change. He said "There is nothing wrong with my voice. You people should have your radios repaired or buy a BOSE unit". Rush is bugging me too. This is my first post please be kind.

It really does sound different. Compare it to pre-recorded commercials with his voice. Definitely different.

I think his engineer has changed the EQ, or maybe he's changed microphones.

But if he's blaming everything else but his own setup, then he's become a liberal. Yup, no question about it. A liberal.

#3: It's the silly inflection in his voice that has become annoying.

He's trying to break into the ranks of the Blue Blood Republican Club with his on air persona of a tweed jacketed, pipe smoking academic.

It's not working Rush...

It's the content of his message not the pitch of his voice.

A person who uses his speaking voice as much as Rush does, should receive the same vocal training of a professional singer or the mechanism will be harmed.

I heard something similar to this about Walter Cronkite. His broadcast voice was abnormal to his real voice. He ended up having polyps removed from his vocal cords.

I think Rush's voice and apparent arrogance was affected by his $20,000,000 contract. I turned him on yesterday but couldn't listen for too long. He was interviewing Netanyahu . I shut him off and I was a big fan, No more..

Absolutely. Again today I turned it on in the car. The person I was with said "Who's that?"....

The fact that he is denying anything other than your cheap radio reception tells me

1.It is deliberate affectation on his part...or maybe

2.He knows he has throat cancer, but doesn't want his bosses to know.

The old Rush would have said.."Damn, maybe I better get to a doctor to see if there's anything to this!" Again, I listened very carefully today....I hear both, a different voice AND a definite pompous-a$$ delivery. Every once in a while I did hear the old voice...This makes me think it is a deliberate affectation.

It sounds to me as if he using techniques to protect his voice. He is now talking from his diaphragm, in the same way a singer sings from the diaphragm. BTW if you haven't tried to do this you would be amazed at the difference.

You're absolutely right, duckman--I haven't been able to listen for a while, and I caught a snippet of his show last week. My first thought was that he had an annoying vocal affectation a la William Buckley, then I thought that he had some vocal cord damage. His voice is NOT the same as it used to be. People that listen to him every day probably can't tell it, but going from being a big Ditto-head to not listening to him for a couple of years, his voice and demeanor have definitely changed.

I posted something about Rush's new-found phoney voice recently too. He sounds like he's been hanging around with Bill Buckley too much. Maybe he's got a bit of Pate de Foi Gras stuck in his throat? Perhaps if he were to lean his head forward again and get his nose out of the air his voice would go back to normal?

"SPAAAAAAAAAAAUUULLLLDDIIIIIIIIIIIIIING!"

Good match. He does sound like Marta's squeezing the golden EIB's a bit hard lately.

To bad. He is becoming annoying. I have been listening to him since 1990. Can not listen any longer.

You have a lot more patience than I do.
I began listening to him in 1990 also, but had to quit him two years ago, when he joined his perceived "Gentlemen's Quarterly" crowd.

You know, name dropping, cigars, golf, wine, BS...

Forgot to mention, he said to have your radio's disqualification circut checked. Anyone know what that is?

Yes!
That's the liberal circuit next to the transmogrifier...

It's called the Churchill Syndrome. It happened right after he got that big contract. He must feel real important now.....

Duckman, you came up with a winner on your first post.

I'm glad I'm not the only one to notice the change. At first, I thought Rush had gone into a "senior statesman" mode. But I still tune in to see what he has to say, whether I agree with it or not. He has earned my respect.

Thank you, Duckman!

I haven't listened to Rush for nearly a year and then checked in last week to see what he was saying (hoping for some patriotic inspiration). His voice has changed and for the worse. He does have that Buckley-barfiouso sound. Don't know why. Sadly, his content has not improved and that is going to hurt him worse than the voice change.

I am SO glad I read this thread! I agree 100% ---Rush's voice is soooooooooo annoying I cannot take it--he comes across pompous and so annoying. I quickly turned the radio off because I can't stand it. I love Rush I know he says pompous things---I understand it is a joke--no big deal--but lately WOW!!!! I was wondering if all of this recent CNN stuff just flew to his head!

I've listened to Rush for years and his voice IS different lately. I think he is delibertly speaking in a lower tone to sound more authoritative. It doesn't become him and he should go back to his regular voice. There is nothing wrong with his regular voice. The funny thing is that the other day he mentioned that only amateurs try to talk in a lower tone. Lately I've had a hard time listening to him because he rambles on and doesn't give us much information. He talks too much about himself and I prefer to hear him talk about politics.

Rush's voice has not changed. It is the inflection that he has added to his particular speech mannerism. It is as if he is doing an imitation of someone and forgets to shut it off when he is done. Like his Buckley imitation of saying "Reevererend Jackssooon--only now he for gets to drop it. He has fallen into bad habits nothing more. Although I am a little annoyed with his blaming our equipment. If soooo many people are complaining maybe he should listen to some of his own tapes. You know, take personal resposibility.
