For the third time in a month Rush mentioned the e-mails about his voice change. He said "There is nothing wrong with my voice. You people should have your radios repaired or buy a BOSE unit". Rush is bugging me too. This is my first post please be kind.

YES! EXACTLY. SOUNDS LIKE HE IS TRYING TO PUT ON A FAKE VOICE. I HAVE NOTICED IT AND IT IS ANNOYING. I WISH HE WOULD JUST SPEAK NORMALLY. HE CAN'T SAY THAT HE'S NOT DOING SOMETHING DIFFERENTLY.

conspiracy!,rush have been replaced by a clone from the gov. but the voice is not exact copy.

So I was like, I guess that was him, but it doesn't sound like him. And then he was like, yea it's rush. So now I see this post and I'm like woah. What a good laugh! You made my day!
BTW, what ever happened to the great parodies and Paul Shanklin tunes on his show?

I was wondering what happened to your post. I commented on it yesterday. It seems, based on a previous post on this thread, that Jim R has some concerns about Rush posts because of Rush's negative comments about Freepers. Duckman

Rush has smokers' voice, too much mucus, and since he seems to relish puffing away endlessly during his show, he shouldn't be suprised that his voice bears the brunt of his habit.

The afected voice is enought to cause me to stop listening. He now sounds like a caricature of himself..."Mush Rimbaugh"
The voice isn't deeper, it's actually like someone faking having a deep voice. He used to have that great voice as descibed in Post #78. Maybe it changed because of the weight loss so now he's trying to recapture it artificially.
He needs a vocal coach and doctor ASAP, especially after hearing him after the WTC bombing. Everyone noticed it more post-WTC because the seemingly arrogant tone sounds so inappropriate after all that just happened.

My wife and I noticed too; it sounds like some very conscious affectation. His denial is bunk. Incidentally, he has become a real yawn.

.... He is becoming annoying. I have been listening to him since 1990. Can not listen any longer.....
I agree. Lately no matter what he talks about, he twists it back to some sort of self praise. In the past I enjoyed his mock pomposity .... but he has latey begun to take himself much too seriously ..... He may be at the start of a downhill slide. I doubt that many "new" listeners will be able to stomach his ego .... and that is a shame.

Makes you wonder if it really is Rush. Rush could have found a stand in who reads from a script (a "Rich Little" type). I could tell awhile back that Rush was getting bored - possibly a withdrawal symptom from the "rich" Clinton years. This might be his answer to boredom, a stand in with almost the same voice. But what a sad, sad answer that would be for his listeners. A Fraud. Rush wouldn't do that to people. Nah. FOGETABOUTIT! I was thinking the exact same thing. Remember Saturday Night Live when Steve Martin had a stand-in do the opening monologue? He said all the big celebrities have stand-ins.

Having used a time compressor before I can tell you 2 things. 1.) You can't compress a live show with call-in interaction. 2.) The difference is the time of the pauses and not the actual speech unless they are trying to really push the limits. There would be no change in pitch.
My guess, he is getting old. He had a cold and is just taking a while to get over it.
With Rush, it doesn't matter. It's the quality of his speaking rather than the quality of his speech I listen to.

Probably all that cigar smoking.
To: Fithee
but he is losing it fast. The end is in sight, unless he can recapture what he was 10 years ago. Poor Rush! Yeah. I guess that's why he is where he is ... and why you are here posting on FR. I think Rush knows a thing or two about sustaining success.

I have noticed when he is preparing to brag, as he did today when he went on a tirade about spending four days in Israel with Netanyahu, he goes full throttle Thurston Howell III
No class envy, so spare me the lectures. However I wouldn´t mind spending four days in Israel with ol ´ Bibi...maybe holed up in a bunker somewhere..

I thought it was my imagination. He sounds like he dropped an octive. What up with that? I thought it was my imagination too. After listening to him I thought to myself I think he is sounding or "trying" to sound like Wm F. Buckley. That was my 1st thoughts. I have been noticing this of late but thought it was only me.

Thanks for such an important post.

Rush is trying to give his voice more GRAVITAS by talking in a deep, almost sarcastic voice.
30 million dollars a year will change all of us.
To: ScottinSacto
He sounded like an actor trying to pull off an aristocrat immitation. Exactly! It's not an octave lower--it's an affected voice, the kind that is deliberately altered for some reason. Maybe he's conducting an experiment of some kind.
