For the third time in a month Rush mentioned the e-mails about his voice change. He said "There is nothing wrong with my voice. You people should have your radios repaired or buy a BOSE unit". Rush is bugging me too. This is my first post please be kind.

I don't care what Rush says, something's definitely wrong.
I am wondering if he has some sort of TMJ disorder, where he cannot move his jaw with full range of motion without pain, because it sounds as if he is trying to maintain his resonance while not being able to open his mouth fully. At times, you can hear his breath whistling through his teeth. It's easy to compare the difference when you listen to the Sleep Train commercials that he did before he started sounding funny.
I am not a speech therapist or anything close, but I do have a background in public speaking and I know that there is only so resonant your voice can be when you are not opening your mouth.
For his sake, I hope this is some kind of temporary problem that will be over soon enough, and it's just that he doesn't feel compelled to distract us all by talking about it.
I hope.

Makes you wonder if it really is Rush. Rush could have found a stand in who reads from a scrip That's it!! That's it exact a mundo. He sounds like someone doing an immitation of Rush. I don't buy that there really is a stand in but it sure sounds like the guy that does the Rush voice on Imus!!!

WHY does he deny the change that anyone with 2 ears can hear immediately! It's insulting to his audience to deny the obvious. To me, it sounds like he has his chin against his chest.

>>Forgot to mention, he said to have your radio's disqualification circut checked. Anyone know what that is?<<
He said "disgronification unit"
Me thinks that is like the key to the flag pole required to go snipe hunting.

I think he's lost his mind. Either that or he's auditioning for the part of Thurston Howell III in the movie version of Gilligan's Island. For the record, there have been two Gilligan's Island movies. The first was the rescue and the second involved the Harlem Globetrotters. Both were made for TV.
There. Probably my most important post of the day.

"Anyone else remember a year or so ago, he was slurring his words and he came on the next day saying that something was wrong with their satellite uplink or something?"
I remember something like that, too, a while back.

I was the author of yesterday's thread. It gained about 250 responses. This morning...GONE.
I was rather upset about it, after all I started the thread, stayed with it, and tryed to put to rest anyone who thought the thread was out to BASH RUSH. It was a legitimate question as to why the DEMENOR of Rush had changed. Someone else brought up the fact that the inflection of his voice had changed...but...the overall consensus was that everyone was in agreement that Rush is not listened to as much, and mostly because of RUDENESS.
That being said, I am in a quandry why that thread was pulled. I read no bad language, nothing was said that wasn't voiced by MANY people...nor was there a mean spiritedness about it. I am not anxious to begin another thread now.
I sure wish I knew what went wrong !!I surely really wanted to know if I was the only one feeling like I did about a man I have listened to for 11 years straight. Thanks for all those who contributed to my Thread., and I hope one day we will get an answer to that.

I have noticed the change in his voice as well...not only lower, but as if he needed to clear his throat more often.

I had not listened in quite awhile but tuned in recently and noticed the change immediately. Is he trying to affect a british accent or sound professorial? IMHO, the effect is quite irritating. I'm a fan of Rush, but if I were a new listener, I would be offended by what appears to be a condescending tone of voice.

Maybe your station is using the time compressor thingie so they can add more commercials?
To: Lexington Green
His voice does sound strange.....I agree. I thought it was only me who noticed.

OMG!!!! A friend had Rush on the radio, and I was like, who is that Imus? And he was like, no that's rush. So I was like, I guess that was him, but it doesn't sound like him. And then he was like, yea it's rush. So now I see this post and I'm like woah.

Maybe your station is using the time compressor thingie so they can add more commercials? That was my thought. I can't listen like I used to and missed a week or so. When I tuned in this week, it sounded weird, my first thought was the compression thing.
BTW, in Raleigh we listen to Rush on the Blowtorch of the South, WPTF 680AM.

I think it's Janet Reno sitting there at the mike....Naaah...you don't hear that tap-tap-tap-tapping.

A couple years back there was some controversy about a device which digitally compresses time on talk radio by eliminating pauses between words. This was so they could fit more commercials in. Rush was supposed to have made them stop using it, I believe. Might be something like that.
To: TC Rider
I don't recall what the resolution of that problem was. I thought he had forbade them to use it on his show.
