The "Save Bill Maher" Tour Continues
NBC Tonight Show | September 21, 2001 | GreatOne

Posted on 09/21/2001 9:57:41 PM PDT by GreatOne

Just saw Bill Maher on Leno tonight. Wonder if we'll next see him on Letterman, Late Night, Late Late Show, Later (can't these guys come up with an original name), Nightline, Meet the Press, Crossfire, The Daily Show, South Park, Home Shopping Network, BET, Big Brother 2, Lost, and "A Very Special Dawson's Creek", trying to pathetically get across what a "true American" he is.

Even if he wasn't trying to insult the military (which I believe he wasn't), there are a whole host of other outrageous things he's done (saying a baby can be killed up to birth because "Duh, it's not outside the womb - right"; defending Clinton - pick your outrage; etc.). It's about time we were able to get these liberals off the air.

I could go on and on. He was a lot of fun to watch when he first came out on the Comedy Channel, but then he realized he could get chicks and invites to the right parties by going hard left.

I stayed up to watch Maher on Leno to see what his damage control operation would do. Leno did everything possible to let Maher appear misunderstood. Maher seemed apologetic at first but later turned belligerent again about "airing issues" and "the right to dissent." He looked like he was trying to collect applause from the audience.

By the way, two kids were on before. One boy had his friend come out to meet Pamela Anderson. Pam had the 12 year old boy sit on her lap. He seemed happy and scared at the same time. So Maher came out next after a soft introduction. Maher sat on Pam's lap. It looked ridiculous and unfunny.

Invading Pam's space and sitting on her lap showed another side of Maher - thoughtless and self-centered.

I recall a PI show (which I seldom watched before and hope will fail now) where Arsenio Hall told Maher that ABC ran the show. Maher made a speech about how that wasn't so. Arsenio just laughed and said, "Maybe you tell your girlfriend that, but the guy with the mouse ears controls the show." (I paraphrase) Maher blew up at Arsenio and told him, "Just because your show failed..." Maher went on to express his outrage and his sincere efforts to keep his show pure. Arsenio laughed at his tantrum.

Seldom do I watch Leno or PI, but curiousity got the best of me.......so I watched. I don't know if anyone else noticed this but Maher's defense was IDENTICAL in both his show and Leno's. VERBATUM----NOT CLOSE BUT IDENTICAL! He had scripted his verbal defense.......all the way down to his stupid jokes. He failed to specifically admit EXACTLY what he said and he seemed to be running behind the freedom of speech for protection. I don't know what will be the final outcome, but what is ABC waiting for...if they were going to can him, it seems to me they would have alread? Just an observation.............

Bill Maher=douchebag=idiot. He will always be "remembered" as a man that let his mouth over-ride his a$$. There is no amount of "spin" that could save him now.

Bye bye Bill, fade into irrelivantcy with your hero, BJ (the SCUMBAG) Clinton. Just like your hero, you won't be missed, and you didn't make a scratch in history except for the prose of this little, patriot author in Minnesota.

I think the idea is "Take your apology on the road. If you win back support, you have a show." Verbatim remarks mean that he was well coached and warned not to stray from the script. He looked angry that anyone misunderstood his quest for freedom but he also looked whipped and lost. I doubt that he was sorry in any way for his remarks. He is a typical peacock - proud, stupid, hiding his ugly feet (his own philosophy). When he opens his mouth, he sounds like a peacock. When my wife first heard one, she said, "What is that awful sound?" It sounded like a wild animal being killed. That is Maher's voice - raucous and loud.

I believe in "Free Speech",.. but even more so, I believe in "RESPONSIBLITY".

Bill Maher is trying to "WEASEL" himself out of his tough man, little man bravado.

He said that he wasn't saying our military was at fault.. BULL CRAP!!! He said "How **courageous** is it to drop bombs at 30,000 feet" (Not an exact quote, but it might be) But there were no if's and's or but's about his meaning. Not when he went on to say that the "TERRORISTS WERE HEROIC, THEY GAVE THEIR LIVES, THAT TOOK BA**S" (again, maybe not an exact quote, but I bet I'm damn close!!)

Now he says he is sorry, that he should maybe have changed the tone during such a time of crisis for our Nation. Well, fine, your forgiven Bill. But that kind of ir-responsible bahavior is unexcusable. ABC should fire him!!!!!!!!

Jay Leno enabled him, Jay better watch himself too. I think Americans are full aware of how Hollywood feels about our Military and how they feel about our President. They may all be looking for jobs soon. Its time for movements like the one that took place after the IR-RESPONSIBLE statements by Maher. The SAME should happen to any likeminded person!!

Maher's fake wrapping himself in the American flag everyday now since his implosion, only serves to make his case worse. I have done what most of us are doing, watching him whine and posture for positive anything from the audience. He seems to have forgotten that during tough times, the United States is UNITED, less we fall....seems like a very smart man named Lincoln put these words out during the Civil War. We are all for the Bill of Rights!! It is part of what makes us strong..and I think Maher GETS that now, but it is too late, and to paraphrase the President, "the time for talk is over"!! Get lost Maher, if you love your country, GET LOST!!!!

The guy is pissing his pants right now. All of a sudden his vile nature is turning people off. He got BUSTED big time and is backpeddeling so fast he's falling down all over the place. I have never witnessed a more pathetic, groveling display. I hope it's over for him.

Even if he wasn't trying to insult the military (which I believe he wasn't), ....

I agree...he has been a big supporter (at least verbally)of our military. And because of that all these folks who's shows he's been appearing on seem to excuse what he said last week which is beyond my understanding! Even Rush and O'Reilly have excused it. Since when is it acceptable to excuse calling our leadership, or President and the congress and senate a bunch of cowards during a time of war? Since when is that still considered to be patriotic? How is this excusable at this time when we are all being encouraged to unite? How is it okay in our present situation to stand up for our military and shoot those commanding them?

I post on another website board which is not political in nature but in light of our present circumstances many posts are related to our country and our president, etc. One person from Canada made a comment about how happy she was to see how well our president was 'keeping his head' in this crisis, intimating she was surprised after all she had heard about him. Well you can bet your bottom dollar that the responses she got were angry responses from American's saying 'how dare she insult our mighty commander in cheif' when our country has been so brutally assaulted. This poor woman thought she was complimenting him but because she did it in a backhanded way she was held accountable for it immedately. Why aren't our more conservative media hosts doing that in regard to Bill Maher? I just don't understand how his support of our military COMPLETELY excuses him from his lack of support for our President and other leaders?

Sorry for the long rant but this really bugs me.

Bill is such a great guy--remember when he called Barbara Bush (the president's mother!)a b*tch? That was nice, hmm? Then he once likened retarded children to his dogs...what a sweetheart. He defends drugs, Bubba and Hillary, and abortion. Tell me HOW? HOW? Did this lower than plankton ever get a TV show in the first place? What a phoney baloney--Imus was right--he's not near as smart as he thinks he is. First Amendment my butt--he's just plain ol' mean!

Oh, and one more thing in addition to my above post....

His giving credit to the terrorist hijackers for not being cowardly because they were willing to go die with their victims is hogwash!!! They did not display courage but stupidity and IMMENSE COWARD!

They were stupid because they gave their lives for the cause of ruining our way of life and it did NOT work. They should have known it would not work because Americans have always been known to live for, fight for, and even die to perserve our free way of life.

They were cowards because they only way they could be effective to any degree in an attack on us was by attacking civilians rather than our military and that is just downright cowardly! They have no fortitude to face our mighty military so they go after unarmed men, women and children instead. How brave is that Bill Maher????

I was in the shower, and when I got out, his show had just started. I stood there watching him for a second to see what he was going to say. His first comment was that the network was underwriting his show because he had no sponsors. He made what was the most half-a$$ed apology for his statements, trying to backpeddle from his statements, and he seemed incredulous to the fact that his statements had caused so much hoopla. Pathetic - is the only word I can find to describe him. Then he made this cocky remark about the empty chair which was going to continue on his show in honor of Barbara Olsen. Sick, this guy is sick. I think we need to tell the network to dump this guy.

"the ones who funded then are" You will probably find that the "ones" who funded them are the same international bankers who run America.

We now not only have a "Drug Czar", we have a "Terrorist Czar". The continual socializing of America into world rule, which is what the bankers are after.

I beleive Maher was taken out of context, if he indeed was, I wonder how he feels about the true intent of his statement being overlooked, could he possibly be a casualty of the politically correct agenda he helped create?

"Calling our service men and women cowards is frankly horses*it."

He didn't say that nor imply it. He was saying that our government policies have been cowardly, i.e, bombing Kosovo from 20,000 feet.

That said, eat my shorts Mahr.

From the PI transcript 9/17/01:

Bill: "We're going to leave one chair empty as a tribute to Barbara Olson who was a cherished guest and friend of our show who died last Tuesday on a plane that was carrying her here to do our show."

Dinesh: ... "And, although I think Bush has been doing a great job, one of the themes we hear constantly is that the people who did this are cowards."

Bill: "Not true."

Dinesh: "Not true. None of 'em backed out. All of them slammed themselves into pieces of concrete."

Bill: "Exactly."

Dinesh: "They are warriors."

Bill: "... staying in the airplane when it hits the building, say what you want about it, it's not cowardly. You're right."

I'm livid at his conclusion:

Barbara Olson died at the hands of a warrior.

Even if he wasn't trying to insult the military (which I believe he wasn't)

You people are a piece of work. Isn't this the domain of the left, censoring people... EVEN WHEN YOU DON'T BELIEVE THEY'VE DONE ANYTHING WRONG!!!

The freedom to make stupid/insensitive comments is as American as apple pie and the flag. This is going to backfire, to judge by the reception Maher got on Leno, his own show, and that crummy show with Barbara Walters and the four other silly women.

You, sir, seem to be a product of the public school system, as the rest of my thought, which you did not reprint, was the following:

there are a whole host of other outrageous things he's done (saying a baby can be killed up to birth because "Duh, it's not outside the womb - right"; defending Clinton - pick your outrage; etc.)

Therefore, I, and the others who hope he disappears from the air, have plenty of reasons to wish for such a thing.
