I loved it that he singled out Rudy and George - and neither DIM senator from NY. It's especially appropriate since the DIM senators from NY have done squat through this entire thing - unless you count meaningless gestures and posturing for the press.

A liberal friend of mine called during the speech. I DID NOT PICK UP. She left a message that the speechwriters did a good job.

You mean she thinks all politicians have their speaches written for them ?
She's saying the last 8 years, the wiping of the tear, the biting of the lip, the words of pain....were all fake??.... Go figure!!!

Just listened to Hugh Sidey from Time magazine. He said that crisis is what makes a great president. That when everything is in equilibrium, then the country can basically run itself, that when there is a great need, that it is imperative that we have a strong leader and that he thinks Bush is stepping into the role. He said that this ability has always been in GWB, He thought it was one of the greatest presidential speeches he has heard. ...

Tonight the socialists became the "homeless." They have no place to go any more. Their cause has been silenced.

Don't have to worry about GW and Company. And the DEMs can't do anything BUT follow through. If they don't the public will eat em' alive.

After many years, I am forced to Delurk tonight to express my pride in President Bush and our country. It is a sad shame that it took this tragic event to shock us back to reality. This is how this country should be ALL of the time.

Read FDR's speech on Rush's website (it's short). Bush was far more eloquent, IMHO. No knock on FDR, only high praise for GHWB!

Truly great speech. Most laid back call to war one could imagine. Hit all the right buttons.

The "Homeland Defense" cabinet position, unless it's sunsetted by Congress, will come back to haunt; not us but our children and grand children. After terrorism is defeated, what will this, by then, monstrous federal beaurocracy have to do? They'll have to justify their existence. Just imagine them learning from the Department of Education or the EPA; keep creating new boundaries and duties, self defining their responsibilities. Freepers of the 21st century will be howling for its demise because it will be used, eventually, to crush Americans. Oklahoma City saved the dying "anti terrorism bill" (and Bill Clinton). Remember the Reichstad fire.
