Iheard that sorry assed comment to, and was sooo glad my husband was there to hear it. I am so anti CNN, but only get that on our kitchen tv. But when he heard that he turned and looked at me because even he felt there was no reason for it. It was like, I love the speech, and he was so forthright, etc..... BUT!!! Judy will wake up in the morning and find out IT WAS A HOMERUN and change her tune....NOOOT!!

I was listening to the Ted Sarandis show (WEEI Boston) after the speech. The first several callers all said roughly the same thing: "I never voted for Bush but now I'm 100% behind him." People recognized that W was speaking from the heart and that he meant every word. Even to liberals in Massachusetts, the contrast with Clinton is strikingly obvious and they are responding to it.

The lefties are all about the medium, not the message.

Oftimes they're offended by GW's lack of theatricality. What a bunch of donkey-wipes ....

I stand by my opinion the other night after the Letterman performance. I think Rather is sincere.

He is not a stupid man, and he realizes what danger we are in. And he is honest enough to admit to himself that he was wrong about President Bush. And he is ashamed.

Probably he will never admit to being wrong, and just like Howard Fineman he will somehow conclude that President Bush has "grown in office." But he will not be bashing him the way he was. Knowing people who died in the WTC has given him an attitude adjustment.

"Woodruff sure made a fool of herself!"

There's a task that shouldn't take more than a couple of seconds.

What really hit me hard this evening while I listened to the President, is his seriousness and determination. !! Translation, He is done, "f*cking around"! He is tired of Europe playing cute environmental politics, he is tired of countries telling the U.S. what to do, he is tired of the military throwing expensive missiles at pop cans, he is tired of Saddam playing cat-n-mouse with the USA, but most of all, he is tired of the world sitting on the fence sipping their $20.00 expressos and expecting the President to join them in their pseudo-intellectual discussions when, meanwhile, global tragedies are unfolding right before their eyes. President Bush, a man acknowledged as not being interested in "scripting history" has history, at his knees!

While he is NO liberal, Michael Savage said earlier tonight (before the Speech) "Liberalism in America is dead after Sept. 11, 2001.

This MASTERFUL & IMPECCABLE speech was the "verbal coda" of its death knell.

Bush has been called by DESTINY to lead the Nation & the World at this HOUR!

and his emotions were heartfelt and genuine.... like him, I got way choked when he showed the officer's badge (although, not being on international TV I had the luxury of not having to compose myself as well as GW)

Rather is still a very biased liberal but his words and actions in the past week indicate to me that he was cathartically moved by the devastation in New York. It is, after all, where he's worked the past 20 years and I would not be surprised at all if he lost a good friend or two in the WTC collapse.

I don't believe his tears on Letterman were faked (he was quoting a verse from "America The Beautiful" when he choked up - how many fo us can recite past the first verse?)

He's also been to Afghanistan personally to cover the war against the Soviets and may understand better than most what awaits if we are foolish enough to start a ground war there.

I think Rather's praise tonight speaks volumes either that he supports America's war on terrorism or that he hasn't been taking his meds lately.

"They" UNDERESTIMATED him again!!! Finally the US has a president that doesn't just "feel your pain"

BTW where did Hitlary disappear to when Schumer was getting a hug from W?
During the speech she looked VERY unhappy {'O $hi+ there goes my bid for President'} while Schumer looked at her smilingly {'Hil you're screwed, and I'm back on top as NY's #1 senator'}

Honestly, Dan Rather looks like a man who has "seen too much," which must be saying something since he's covered every war/incursion/disaster for years.

On Fox Bill Kristol was cool but Birnbaum (liberal) was enthusiastic.

Interesting that the "Republican" was cool.....He'll Never get over Bush's Victory.

Her problem? Don't you know? She had high hopes of buying her way into the WH in 2004 and is seeing her hopes go down the toilet where they belong. I'm sure glad someone else noticed her sour demeanor. And, I heard on Rush yesterday that when GW made the comment about the $2M weapon, tent and camel, that 4 senators were in the room with him when he said it...Hillary was one of them. LOL.

A former administration official compared the speech to "HENRY the FIFTH" I agree!

Would that be David Gergen you're referring to? (He, who was a Reagan or Bush I aide, but then joined the Clinton administration!)

I heard Gergen say something like, "Prince Hal became Henry V tonight."

This speech definitely marks the end of the Hollywood / DNC "Bush-ain't-too-bright" campaign.

Brilliant comment :-)

Unreal, but he honestly was choked up and teary. I thought Letterman made a great recovery for him with the ensuing applause. If my memory serves me correctly, (of course I wasn't born yet) Rather cried on national TV when President Kennedy was shot.

And I think I can struggle through "America the Beautiful" especially with all the practice... this past week.

I didn't even think twice about switching to another station.

Surprisingly Reich was much more positive toward President Bush's speech than "Go Away Pat Go Away" Buchanan.

Knowing people who died in the WTC has given him an attitude adjustment.

Anyone who has not had an attitude adjustment by the death of more than 7,000 innocent civilians from around the world, and the destruction of billions in resources, is not worthy of being called human.
