Pat Buchanan: U.S. Pays the High Price of Empire

As the twin towers of the World Trade Center came down in flames, taking 5,000 Americans with them, an unserious era in U.S. history came to an end. "All is changed, changed utterly," wrote poet W.B. Yeats. President Bush has now received full authority to wage war against all who abetted the slaughter. It must be done. Our American family cannot permit the mass murder of our brothers and sisters to go unpunished. But as the president directs the moral outrage of his wounded nation, he will need the wisdom of Solomon.

Looks like they hate most everyone on the Right. A few Lefties, but mostly bashing the Right.

The sources for the article include publications as the New York Post, Norman Podhertz's Commentary and William F. Buckley's National Review.

Are those the Lefties you're referring to?

Especially when creatively edited by you, little Mr Wm Wallace Waldheim.

(sigh) That's the problem when one quotes Pat Buchanan verbatim. His comments are so incredibly asinine that people assumes others are putting words in his mouth.

No one can put words in Pat's mouth. His foot is in the way.

umm... Maybe "William Wallace" is Alan Dershowitz? Either way I don't think he's going to be insulted by the similarity.

Please stop. You're killing me with your rapier wit.

Strangely the tragedy hasn't prevented the anti-Pats from taking their shots.

Look who's talking.
Remember your last Tuesday post to me?
Pipe down, Patsie.

So you agree with the "facts" of something before you find out what it's "about"??

"Second define our "interest in supporting democracy".....it's none of our damn business. You laud the term "democracy". Our founding fathers hated the term. Why would you not prefer to fight tyranny inside our borders, as opposed to spending American blood and treasure in global 911 calls?"

Amen to that, brother.

These threads serve a purpose after all. The two of you make a lovely couple.

You lovebirds stay up as long as you like. Unlike Buchanan supporters, the rest of us have to go to work tomorrow morning.

"I thought this country was built with immigration. I thought one of the things that makes this country the greatest was we are a "melting pot" of people..."

In most instances, when you find you have taken a wrong path and things are going badly, the best course of action is to retrace your steps, find out where things began going wrong and the problem began developing, and get back on the correct track that had been working.
This is what we should do.
Before that paragon of wisdom and character Teddy Kennedy and his cohorts changed our immigration laws in 1965, this country's immigration policies worked to improve our society.
All illegals out of the USA!
It is not the solution, but it is a place to start.

It's late and I don't have the energy to jump in and get flamed for agreeing with you (or not--let's just leave 'em wondering), but allow me to say that your particular use of the expletive "HorseHillary!" made my day! That one is fast becoming my favorite cuss-word!

Pat's ideas on economics were refuted 100 years before he was born. Muddling would be an overachievement for you Brigadiers.

I'll let you have the last word. Make Pat proud.

--Stopping terrorists before they can act within our borders is the responsibility of civilian agencies, not the military.--

Hard to do once all the civilian agencies have been disarmed, eh not? I fear whichever way we wiggle, the only result will be further erosion of our rights. Additionally, I disagree with Cheney's position that it is justifiable to employ "unsavory" characters. Isn't that what the Romans did when they called in mercenaries and consequently lost their Empire? (It's that erosion from within that gets you every time.)
