In blaming the recent terror bombings on pagans, feminists, gays, the ACLU and People for the American Way, Jerry Falwell revealed himself to be theologically akin to the Islamic fundamentalists now attacking America. continue

Falwell apologized. Amazing how that was ignored in favor of the story.

Falwell apologized. He apologized that his statements were "taken out of context."
He didn't apologize for the statements.
He should have.

He apologized yesterday at the D-Day memorial. He even bowed out of the event to avoid controversy.

When Jerry starts recruiting suicide bombers in the little boy's sunday school class, then we can say he's theological kin of the Islamic terrorists. Until then, to say so is a little bit over the top, wouldn't you say.
By the way, I disagree with Jerry.
Comparing him to the murderers at ground zero, though, is like the Dem Party comparing the Repub's to Nazi's (which they frequently do.)
It makes me worry more about the stability or truthfulness of the accuser, than it ever does about the accused.

If you really think that Falwell and bin Laden are one and the same, you're an idiot; Falwell is not the most diplomatic person in the world, but he would not crash a plane into a building and kill innocent people; he wouldn't even take out an abortionist. There are a lot of anti-Christian people out there, but it's hard to understand why a conservative would be anti-Christian. Conservatives are supposed to be smart, able to discern what the average leftist is clueless about. Nonetheless, there's a lot of anti-Christian conservatives on this site; that fact is far more pathetic than any comments by Rev Falwell; much, much, more......

God sometimes removes his hand of protection from countries that turn away from Him. I think this is the point that Falwell was trying to make.
Can anyone truly say that the sort of filthy behavior that gays and the murderous behavior of abortionists engage in is what God thinks is good and just and proper?

Falwell was right but the people in the media don't have a clue what he was talking about because they are spiritually blind.
John 3
19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved

Big deal that Falwell apologized. BFD!
Jesse Jackson apologized for his "Hymie Town" comments regarding NYC, and Louis Farrakhan apologized for some of his bigotry too.
They apologized because they experienced a backlash from the public. It doesn't mean they admitted they were wrong in making the statment to begin with.
All religious leaders should shut the hell up, except to offer prayer for the weak of mind who feel they need it.

I don't understand what your (and others') point is. What are you saying, really?
- Are you saying that homosexuality, abortion, immorality and all do not offend God anymore?
- Are you saying that our culture has not embraced these evils?
- Are you saying that God is remote from human affairs, and no longer controls the affairs of men and nations as the Bible so often states?
- Are you saying that, while God has judged nations for just these precise evils before, America has a "bye" with God?
Really, what are you saying? Unless you're just unreflectingly echoing moder PC sentimentality, or unless you're overtly rejecting the God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Jesus, I don't know what you're saying.

I would love to hear him explain the context of THAT statement, wouldn't you? Robertson and Falwell were doing an "I told you so," which conveyed a smugness and a certain satisfaction that their distorted God had wreaked havoc on sinful America.
Reminds me of when Robertson was predicting a devastating hurricane in Florida because of "gay days" at DisneyWorld.
That same year, a hurricane smacked right into the home state of the 700 Club!

God does not fling passenger jets into buildings full of people as judgement.
God does not inspire His followers to take revenge on a
random collection of people working in an office building.
The people who represented God most accurately on Sept. 11th
were the firefighters and police who came to rescue those who had been attacked.
They didn't come to judge. They didn't come to scold.
They put their lives on the line and came to rescue people in need.
