The real test is to give them to 20 year olds and have them drag them around the country for a while, exposing them to mud and dust and putting them on and off trucks and jeeps.
Also, put a round up the spout on a quiet night in the country.
The Garand is a wonderful piece of precision craftsmanship, but it has too many moving parts.
But the Yanks seem to love them.
