[history]
Those limits to liberties are acceptable to Metro Detroiters and most other Americans. A Detroit News poll Thursday found that 88 percent of Metro Detroiters are willing to "accept restrictions on movements such as metal detectors and military personnel in public places" to increase the nation's security from terrorist attacks.

but there is no sense to rashly enacting measures that have no practical effect in safeguarding us. This attack will be the catalyst for the destruction of the Bill of Rights.. I hope I'm wrong.

And now the second front in the war begins - the war on our liberties and freedoms.
Thus ensuring a terrorist victory.
To: wysiwyg
That's some scary s***, wysiwyg. Most people support these insane measures. It's going to be spun that if you are against this stuff, you are unpatriotic. I think it's unlikely that we are going to get through this war with our remaining liberties intact.

I agree that a law against setting fire to the American flag is misguided.
It should be made legal to punch the person in the nose as part of your freedom of speech rights.

There is going to be a VERY SMALL MINORITY of people who stand in opposition to this so freepers need to be loud about this. Check out the poll linked up by wysiwyg earlier in this thread. We need to make this an important issue as we move forward.
Bush said we will not give up freedom in fighting this war, we need to rally behind this message.
To: riley1992
Ah, shucks! The few have always spoiled it for the many. More and more we'll have to learn to play by the necessary rules. No more back-country Constitutional bickering it out with the local traffic police on why no one should have to be required to have a driver's license in order to drive on a public road. The police are not out to thwart the little gratifications of the jaded, but are trying to thwart mass murder. Any little sacrifice is just way too much to ask of some people, but they'll just have to learn to lump it.

Check out the poll linked up by wysiwyg earlier in this thread. Already did.
Bush said we will not give up freedom in fighting this war, we need to rally behind this message.
If we give up our freedoms, then we have already lost.

Marker bump.

.......and I would also say that
not giving up our freedoms would be the best way to show that we won't be cowed or bullied by those who practice repressive style government back home.
A finger right in their eyes. They lose.

I am confident that any legislation that transgresses Constitutional limits will be duly challenged and struck down. I am more than satisfied to allow authorities to move and act to the maximum permissible extent within the bounds of the Constitution. In the long run that maximizes my liberty--it does not diminish it.

Falling off on either side is still a fall nonetheless.

get out of this country you boot lickin sob What? No more laissez-faire open borders? How do those boots fit you? Sheesh.

The point is, most of you so-called "Constitutional experts" don't want to live in a nation that operates according to the Constitution. You want a nation that operates according to your own private agenda and quirks.
