Glenn Beck is on the radio this morning talking about a 72 hour kit and I thought of you and all the valuable information you have posted to help your fellow freepers. Thank you for the information Utah Girl.

Here is the list I posted right after 9/11. The first part of this post is suggestions for your year's food supply and how to buy it in a year, post #88 has the 72 hour kit. Other FR posters also aupplied many good links. My suggestion for the food is to make sure you store food you and your family will eat. And rotate it. It does take planning, but I'd sure rather be prepared than have to depend upon the government (blech) for my needs. Any questions or ideas, I'd be happy to help. One thing I am looking for right now to post for everyone is the expiration dates on canned goods.

Yes, it is. I just kind of grit my teeth though. My mom bought LOTS of TVP when it first came out. We could smell it a mile away and refused to eat it whenever she would make something with it. The newer versions of TVP is pretty good, I'll have to look at storing some.

I'm heading to the grocery store in just a little bit to stock you on a few extra things. I will be packing a back pack within the next couple of days, just in case.

I made a list of important phone numbers and addresses for my husband, mom and me too. Keeping the cell phone charged but not sure it would work if there is a real bad emergency. Trying to keep the laundry done up at all times too. Need to refill a couple perscriptions too that have refills left on them even though we aren't taking them now.

So much to do.

What happened to the price of honey? I bought a bottle the other day because my husband likes it and I think it cost double what the last bottle was.

I actually found a 24 roll package of toilet paper a couple months ago that I hid away, way back when.

I haven't read the whole article or thread yet but I will later tonight. I don't know if this has been mentioned but if you need reading glasses it might be good to have at least one extra pair. My husband averages losing a pair a month so I'm going to pick up a couple extra pair of glasses, they won't go to waste.

Good suggestion. I need my eyes checked anyway, I'll pick up a spare set of eyeglasses. And I read your post about honey. I buy honey in bulk, it NEVER goes bad. It can sugar on you, but all you have to do is set it in a metal container in a pot of boiling water to melt it. Good as new.

Really excellent, Utah Girl. I might also encourage everyone to get a paperback copy of Alas Babylon, book written some years ago, but eerily appropriate to today's circumstances. It's about survival in a small town in Florida after the "blasts." Very realistic, down to earth and full of practical advice. We who live along the Gulf Coast are always somewhat prepared for disaster due to the annual hurricane season, but your information, Utah Girl, is priceless. Thank you.

'Alas Babylon', excellent book. I read it in high school. I just think being prepared is a good thing to do, it does alleviate the fear and concern I have about the state of the world today.

Great advice with all that is going on in the world. I have long been an advocate of preparedness and been prepped up for almost 4 years now.

Might I also add for those that smoke to stock cigarettes and tobacco? This could also be a very valuable item when things get ugly.

Whatever you do, also make sure to store water. Very important IMHO, You can go a lot longer without food than water.

I know many FReepers are also stocking alcohol. I have chocolate in my food storage for my vice. :) And I do have water stored. I used to store water in 2 liter jugs, now I have a couple of 50 gallon containers.
