What's so difficult to understand is that under your system no one that had a religion could hold government position because that would bring religion into government. Or you would curtail there ability to talk because they were religious. How crazy is that? We have always been a religious country. They even wanted Hebrew to be the national language at one time. They even have Chaplains in the armed services and in Congress. What planet are you from?

"Anyone who tries to get everyone else to follow their religious views, especially through law..."

Then we would have to get rid of laws against murder, rape, slavery, etc., because the Bible prohibits these things.

Another thing, the Bible doesn't prohibit slavery and actually tells slaves to obey their masters.

You must be very ignorant of the principles under which the founding documents of our government then and now protect us trom religious persecution and give us the right to freely express our beliefs, notwithstanding the misguided legal decisions that have restricted it. To compare our protections of all beliefs including your atheist ones, unappreciated clearly by you, to a totalitarian Islam government that murders its citizens that want to exercise a freedom of choice of religion is on the face of it stupid.

The visible you seem to cherish alone is far less significant than the invisible as all creation begins as an invisible entity whether in the mind of man or in the far greater invisible Intelligence of the Universe. But sometimes It makes itself manifest to all, the disbelievers included, as it did when the sun came out only when our President's arranged service began, or when he arrived at the Pentagon and the WTC.

You are showing your ignorance and proving that you are not a Christian. This absolutely does not mean that the Bible condones slavery. Does it say "Christian get slaves?" No, this passage was written to slaves and deals with being obedient so that you can convert them. Your true colors are showing. And what about abortion, what does your libertarian/christian dichotomy tell you about this?

You may see religion only through your likely (name) Mideastern perspective of seeing totalitarian Muslim states. That is good reason to be wary of a state religion, but here any religion with no intent to harm others but to offer them choice is welcome as all religions are man's attempt to learn what the Creator of this Universe would llke us to make integral to our lives. And if you heard the Immim-sp? speak at the beautiful service at the National Cathedral, you would get a glimmer of our humankind's spiritual unity in many essential matters of morality, notably murder.

Really? Show me a verse that prohibits slavery. A single one.

And what about abortion, what does your libertarian/christian dichotomy tell you about this?

That estimation might change. When I was in college I was told (by more than one history professor) that "all" of the founding fathers were Diests. Liberal crapola.

A quote by our President "Adversity introduces us to ourselves" might be expanded here "and to all those on this board." How did your grey matter not understand from your (open-ended) quote, which we know ends with the phrase repeating the misspelling of "separation, " that the government has a right to enforce a religion when it clearly states that it cannot, rather that all can express their faith freely. . .??? Go over it. It says no state can create such a law as this freedom of expression right in the opening words of your quote have been reserved to the federal government.

"...Show me a verse that prohibits slavery. A single one..."

OK...

How about the second most important one, after 'Love the Lord with all your heart, soul, mind and strength'...

"Love your neighbor as yourself."

"Love your neighbor as yourself."

Those muslim fanatics over in the middle east aren't my neighbor. In fact, I seem to recall God authorizing slavery in the old testament, or out and out mass genocide

OK:

Deut. 21:10-14; 24:7; 1 Timothy 1:10; Rev. 18:13.

Sorry you can't use the Bible to condone immoral behavior of past generations. God hates slavery.

It is a nation based on Judeo-Christian principles. Thus we have all the protections of their spiritual beliefs embodied in the laws that protect our rights and freedom. That the Muslims and others were not here to represent their views does not mean that they and their belief systems are not parallel or consistent with ours that undergird our founding documents.

I think we are becoming a religious nation again. More christans are going to Church. More Jews are going to Temple. More American Muslims are going to temple. It is the way it should be. Atheists get the hell out of my country, We were founded under God.

As to your article that leads this thread...

Learn to spell, or use a spell check program...when you have such a glaring error, in your headline no less, it takes away most of the power of your argument, opens you up to derision, and makes you look like an ignorant hick. Now, don't get the idea I'm picking on you; I make typos and spelling goofs myself...but why give your opponents an easy shot at you? They will. Ask Dan Quayle.

Secondly, while I share your joy that libs have been cowed to silence by the last week's events, I would caution that they aren't going to magically shut up and go away...they will continue their insidious corruption of our culture as soon as they feel it is safe to do so.

While many Americans, young and old, have been moved to prayer and seeking God...many more have not. Even a two by four upside the head would not get their attention. Some here on this thread illustrate my point vividly.

Their hearts are hardened, their minds are closed, their consciences are seared beyond belief...the idea that they are helpless without God is repugnant to them...they will contend for their right to be the captains of their own souls to the bitter end; and bitter it will be.

But remember the words of our Lord, "In the world you will have tribulation, but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world".

And remember that even He gives men and women the freedom to refuse His Gift... no one has ever been forced into the Kingdom.

"Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is Liberty."

When you go to war against your enemies and the LORD your God delivers them into your hands and you take captives, 11 if you notice among the captives a beautiful woman and are attracted to her, you may take her as your wife. 12 Bring her into your home and have her shave her head, trim her nails 13 and put aside the clothes she was wearing when captured. After she has lived in your house and mourned her father and mother for a full month, then you may go to her and be her husband and she shall be your wife. 14 If you are not pleased with her, let her go wherever she wishes. You must not sell her or treat her as a slave, since you have dishonored her

This does not ban all slavery, just in this case.

If a man is caught kidnapping one of his brother Israelites and treats him as a slave or sells him, the kidnapper must die. You must purge the evil from among you.

This only deals with other Israelites. My are you reaching.

, for slave traders

This still doesnt deal with slavery from after a war.

cargoes of cinnamon and spice, of incense, myrrh and frankincense, of wine and olive oil, of fine flour and wheat; cattle and sheep; horses and carriages; and bodies and souls of men.

What does this have to do with slavery
