Any conservative who believes that the function of journalism is objective truth-telling is deluded. Such was I, for more years than I care to admit to. Journalism is entertainment. It is negative and superficial, and as such it is anticonservative. It makes no constitutional sense for the government to define "public airwaves" and then to allow and even encourage the form of political discussion known as journalism by its favored licensees. The Internet is a far, far better venue for political argument because it is far less regulated.

These people are SO quick to remark that we need to lose freedom...

Are they so stupid that they think they will be removed from this?

They think they are immune...I don't think so.

Why do those whose job it is to tell the truth tell it so tendentiously, and even lie?

When one looks at the point in time when journalism became unapologetically leftist, it would be around the time of the Vietnam War.

All of the young campus communists graduated from college, and took their leftist beliefs with them into middle age.

They found themselves in the position where they could take over most institutions in order to implement their cancerous agenda (they became the teachers, the journalists, etc., and found themselves in a position to inculcate the youth of America with their malignant ideas.)

Once they stole our children away from us, it was only a matter of perpetuating this cycle. In my opinion.

Excellent thesis, cIc.
I thoroughly enjoyed it; so much so I bookmarked it.

Now; how to get Hemmingway's Ghost & MarkWar on the same side.

What a dynamic team of freedom fighters those two would make if they got beyond personality, making a formidable opponent of media sycophant Leftists everywhere.

The curse of the Right is our individuality.

Just an FYI...DU is "archiving" this thread as proof that Freepers want to do away with the First Amendment.

We may want to put some thoughts to "enlighten" those that don't read properly.

DU thread here...shower after leaving

RE: The FCC and the First Amendment --

The FCC claims the power to regulate communication systems
not because of their physical effects, hazards, and the like,
but precisely because they enable communication.

How can such restrictions pass constitutional muster?

...broadcast journalism essentially never tells you anything that you need to know on a real-time basis.

It was pretty effective in telling us about:

The death of Princess Diana

The death of JFK Jnr

The attack on the World Trade Center.

Sure, we would have heard about those things on the Net. BUT, the huge Internet traffic generated by big stories like the above inevitably mean servers grind to a halt and it takes ages to load webpages.

On the other hand, you could just flick on the TV and tune into rolling news provided by CNN, Fox News, BBC etc.

Sure they are all slanted. But if you watch enough of those channels you will be able to build up a fair picture.

In the eyes of the media Republicans make very boring television, as do most Democrats. So the media will ALWAYS seek out the most extreme group at both ends of the political spectrum. Unfortunately for conservatives the Bible-beaters and skinheads are always chosen by the media to represent ALL conservatives. While all the special interest groups(GLAAD, MADD, Rainbow Coalition, PETA) always represent the Liberals. And considering how segmented the national population is most people gravitate toward the liberal special interest group that promises to give them the most.

Factor in that the media is also the perfect tool to beat political correctness into everyone's head like a torture drum and you have the perfect fascist social engineering machine.

Okay there is 20th century political TV news in a nutshell.

I happened on to this thread and I think it would make a great point/counterpoint. Although at some personal risk. I haven't read everything yet but I can say, to prove a point of how powerful those words and picture are on the box, I still get a little goosey when I tie my name to any point/counterpoint discussion as I hear the words of Dan Ackroyd say, "Jane, you ignorant slut..." LOL

Our founding fathers enumerated "free speech" and "free press" for a reason - so that government could not suppress dissidence. A government open to scrutiny would be forced to be more honest and safeguard our liberties. The courts, the press, and the people in general, were to be the watchdog of the republic, to prevent the government from overstepping it's Constitutional boundaries.

Remember, the founding fathers were religious, and expected that future politicians would be also. The never imagined that some politicians of today would be so lacking in morals and ethics, and prostitute themselves to the press. Nor did they imagine the presstitutes of today that would do anything for a story - partisan politics, subverting elections, dumbing down America, leaking national secrets, even attempting to disclose military information during a war.

Journalists once delivered the news, today they deliver the slant.
