A sobering piece, and I hope unduly pessimistic. I doubt that Middle Eastern terrorists will be able to operate as sucessfully in the US as you imply. (Among other things, those types don't really fit into the US all that well, and will have difficultly now that the alarm has been rung to achieve invisibility.) And the US will use weapons other than the men and women of the armed forces alone to turn the screws on nests of terrorists abroad and their hosts, including diplomatic and economic pressure. (Interestingly I heard on the radio one analyst based in Egypt from Britain that has lived there most of his life suggest that the degree of terrorist state sustenance of terrorist organizations is way down from what it was 15 years ago; I hope he is right.) Sending tens of thousands of troops in Afganistan to hunt for Osama bin Laden seems to me to be an option of last resort, and quite possibly one that will fail.

This campaign will take time. Those that want instant and sanguinary conflagratory gratification are going to be quite dissappointed. It will probably not work that way, and I suspect to see expressions of the disappointment in considerable volume in this neighborhood.

But I will not be disappointed. This is an exercise for the long distance runner. It needs patient persistent intensity of purpose over a sustained period, not only by the US, but by the Western alliance and those dependent upon it as a whole. It will be Bush's greatest challenge no doubt in his presidency to achieve it.

Sadly, the extent that the war will be inflicting casualties in the heartland has already claimed perhaps 10,000. There are ways that biological weapons could inflict 100 times that many of our fellow Americans. But that cannot stop our resolve to find and annihilate this disease of humankind. We the people must steel ourselves to the fact that these fanatics actually want to die, for martyrdom, killing Americans. Yes, there are people filled with so much demonic hate that their false glory is to slaughter as many Americans as they can! ... And they tend to raise their little children into the same hatred and demonic possession of blood lust. This war will necessitate finding the snakes, cutting the heads off, then systematically chopping the entire carcass into tiny, unrecognizable portions. Make no mistake though, we have American Muslims who will be just as horribly harmed by these terrorists, indescriminately killing Americans. We the people, of all races, ethnic and religious persuasions must steel ourselves for the long haul. Astonishingly, with every new assault upon our land, the resolve of the people will renew, to find and annihilate these vermin, these pigs in human flesh. And our strikes against their hiding places will do the same in those countries, so we must make our strikes overwhelmingly devastating.

My reply in another thread last Sunday on my most recent experience as an Army Reservist on the West Coast:

I've had a military obligation for most the last 16 years: Active Duty Army five years, USAR, then CA NG, and finally USAR again. I left in disgust Feb. of last year and wouldn't re-enlist with the C*U*Mmander and Chief Clinton as my President. My last unit XO informed the senior NCOs that we wouldn't be able to have the unit qualify for the M16 rifle due to lack of funds. Nevermind that ALL enlisted are required to qualify according to Army policy, the unit METL, and to allow for soldiers to improve the previous year's results for a huge number of promotion points.

Without qualifying, all soldiers in our unit would be deprived of obtaining 100 promotion points for the year and putting them at a ridiculous dissadvantage to their peers Army-wide.....It takes nine bullets to zero, 40 to qualify, and perhaps 2-3 per for alibis in the worst of cases for each soldier. That's about $3.75 worth of bullets at the significantly reduced government contract rate (their catalog, not mine). Not that we should complain, because the unit said we'd have about 12-14 bullets each to allow for "weapons familiarization". I had to walk away. I did hear about that unit's training last Summer. Most the junior enlisted bailed or for some reason couldn't get off another range or training lane to get to the M16 range. The officers got thier rocks off busting caps and leaving the weapons for others to clean. Hey George, when does the help arrive? Until then, I'm an SFC in militia of one.

Hey George, when does the help arrive? Posted by dersepp God, I wish I knew what the answer to that is! We have the greatest military people in the world, men and women with principles and a love of this land. How our leaders can let that jewel wither is beyond me, especially in such a dangerous world! But you know, I have similar questions for the pubby run congress: where in the name of a Holy God is the legislation to stop partial birth abortion, at least? I don't want excuses; I want action!

Fight and slay the pagans [i.e. infidels] wherever ye find them, and seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem of war. —The Koran, Sura 9:5

Lo! Allah hath bought from the believers their lives and their wealth because the Garden will be theirs: they shall fight in the way of Allah and shall slay and be slain. It is a promise which is binding on Him in the Torah and the Gospel and the Qur'an. Who fulfilleth His covenant better than Allah? Rejoice then in your bargain that ye have made, for that is the supreme triumph. Sura 10:38

[5.51] O you who believe! do not take the Jews and the Christians for friends; they are friends of each other; and whoever amongst you takes them for a friend, then surely he is one of them; surely Allah does not guide the unjust people

[9.29] Fight those who do not believe in Allah, nor in the latter day, nor do they prohibit what Allah and His Apostle have prohibited, nor follow the religion of truth, out of those who have been given the Book, until they pay the tax in acknowledgment of superiority and they are in a state of subjection.

[9.30] And the Jews say: Uzair is the son of Allah; and the Christians say: The Messiah is the son of Allah; these are the words of their mouths; they imitate the saying of those who disbelieved before; may Allah destroy them; how they are turned away!

Islam is not a pacifists religion .

American caring Quasi Muslims apparently don't read their books . Perhaps this summary could explain what they are to do and why some do what they do to those of you in denial.

A war is being waged, for Freedom and the freedom of souls .

May they find truth and accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior .

Thanx for reading it, Cheese. [You wouldn't be that guy who played golf in Anniston, would ya?]

The Muslim faith is split by the two basic factions of Shiite and Sunni. We serve the radicals by waging genocide that we cannot complete and shouldn't pursue. Let US not seek genocide int he name of Christ, okay? That's blasphemy.

"To reduce the potential for casualties after we make our initial strike, we must prepare for the coming struggle against an enemy determined to slaughter innocent Americans and an enemy who believes they will be blessed if they die killing innocent Americans ... to these hate-filled fanatics, there are no innocent Americans."

An inciteful post as I have tried to make, despite the rantings of pro-PLO disruptors and demorcraptic party infiltrators. The reality is that the only way to defeat an enemy like this is to terrify them to a point where they will be scared to retaliate against us OR OUR INTERESTS. You destroy one of our cities, we destroy 5 of yours. You kill one of our citizens, we kill a 1000 of yours. It's painful reality check time here people, and don't think that everyone in the world is not watching to test our mettle.

Great post! Spot on!

We should stop worrying about strategy in Afganistan, the professional military is on that case.

We need to worry about the enemy among us, and "BATTLEFIELD USA".

After we attack our enemies overseas, the next attack on the home front may be an anthrax or plague attack, set by the smiling microbiology grad students who live down your street, in the USA on student visas.

Let's find them first.

Thisd may seem like a trivial notion, but here in TN we have a concealed carry permit law. If your state, you who read this thread, has such a law, use it. Get a good hand gun, learn to use it efficiently, apply for and maintain a carry permit. Nothing would break my heart more than to find out terrorists were confronted about to poison a water supply, for instance, and the people confronting them intiailly had no means of firing on the perps. Caution? Absolutely, we mustn't become a kneejerk society, but we must be ready to defend OURSELVES here at home, rather than merely preparing to react after the fact. Sorry, fellow Americans, it is coming to a town or city near you. We must fight them here.

To: MHGinTN, ALL
I know you were talking the other day about being prepared for whatever may happen, like our parents and grandparents were during WWII. The Relief Society (the LDS church's women organization) did a neat thing a few years ago in my ward. We made 72 hour kits. We collected all the items that one person (or family) would need for 72 hours in case of emergency. Mine is sitting in my front hall closet, and I went through it last night to make sure it was up-to-date and to rotate the food items. I have the items in a duffle bag that I can carry if something happened and I had to walk a long distance. I thought I would list the items for anyone else who would like to put one together for themselves and their families. This is something concrete we can do to be prepared for anything that might occur (hurricanes, floods, war, etc.)

This 72 hour kit should meet the needs of your family. Use ready to eat foods your family will eat and hobbies and entertainment your family likes to do. Include individual medication as required by your family members. Whatever container is used should be portable.

You should have:

  • Immediately available
    • Battery powered radio
    • Flashlight and extra batteries
  • Emergency Needs
    • Instruction Manuals on Emergency Preparedness
    • Water storage
    • Sleeping bags and blankets
  • Sanitation Kit
    • Plastic bucket with tight fitted lid
    • Plastic bags and ties
    • toilet paper
    • disinfectant
    • improvised toilet seat (for bucket)
    • feminine hygiene needs
    • paper towels
    • soap
    • paper cups
    • paper plates
    • plastic utensils
    • can opener
    • utility knife
  • Stress Factors
    • Children - coloring book, crayons
    • Adults - books, needle work
  • In the Car
    • Standard First Aid Kit
    • Blanket
    • Flashlight and batteries
    • Reflectors and flares
  • Individual Medical Needs
  • Suggested Additions
    • Family Photographs
    • Medical Information Sheet
    • Insurance Information
    • Identification for each Family Member
    • Will or Trust Information (copies of each)
  • Food - Ready-to-eat
    • Meats: canned
    • Fruit Cocktail
    • Peanut Butter
    • Powdered Milk
    • Infant Care: Canned milk and bottles
    • Dried Fruit: (caution - drink plenty of water.)
    • Raisins, prunes, fruit leather
    • Crackers
  • Stress Foods
    • Sugar Cookies
    • Sweetened Cereals
    • Hard Candy
  • Standard First Aid Kit
    • First Aid manual
    • Spirits of ammonia
    • Scissors
    • Table salt
    • Baking soda
    • Eye drops
    • Safety pins
    • Matches
    • Adhesive or paper tape
    • Bandages
      • Telfa pads (4"x4")
      • Triangle Bandage (37"x37"x37")
      • Roll of Gauze
      • Elastic Bandage
    • Splints
      • Popsicle sticks
      • shingles or thin board
      • 40 page newspaper or magazines
    • Heavy String
  • At least one change of clothing for everyone
    • including shoes

I've also thrown in a sweatshirt with a hood, an inflatable pillow, my scriptures (Bible, Book of Mormon), and some cash, including coins. I also have information on an emergency store of food that can be completed in a year. If anyone wants that I can post it also.
