Having been in Afghanistan, I am curious to know what is going to be attacked?

The country is about 95% desert and treeless mountains.

There is only one major 'city' (Kabul), which consists of a few thousand grubby donkey sheds where the people live.

I, personally, won't get much satisfaction from seeing the bombs drop there.

My concern is that we not only have to respond to this attack. But preventing any future attacks.

Who can argue with the sentiment? But what are the options? The Soviets invaded Afganistan because there were concerned about a rise in Islamic nationalism spilling over into Soviet Republics. All they ended up doing was radicalizing the population. Someone else pointed out, you've got a land locked country surrounded by mountains with little or no urban infrastructure and you're enemy is someone who rides around on camels with a cell phone.
